RAWALPINDI:

Young Doctors Association (YDA) Rawalpindi on Tuesday held a protest outside the local press club against the kidnapping of a medical officer from Tehsil Headquarter (THQ) Hospital, Hazro, on January 13.

A number of male doctors gathered outside Rawalpindi Press Club on Tuesday under the umbrella of YDA and protested against the kidnapping of Dr Ahsan Bahadur from his official residence that was inside the THQ premises.

They chanted slogans against the Attock District Administration for failing to recover their colleague.

YDA district representatives Dr Umer Saeed, Dr Imran Yunus and Dr Junaid Abbasi gathered outside the press club along with other doctors at 2pm and demanded the early recovery of the kidnapped doctor. They also asked for safety and security of other doctors.

YDA Rawalpindi Spokesman Dr Imran Yunus said that the district administration in Attock had failed to find the kidnapped doctor and that the police had not been doing enough for the early recovery of Dr Bahadur.

The young doctors also urged the district administration and Punjab government to provide security to Dr Bahadur’s family.

In response to a question, Dr Imran said the family had not received any ransom demands from the kidnappers yet.

The protesting doctors further warned the government that they would not attend patients at outpatient departments (OPD) in all public sector hospitals in Attock and Rawalpindi if the kidnapped doctor was not recovered by next Monday.

The doctors will devise their new strategy after the coming Monday if the doctor is not recovered. Earlier, in a separate incident a doctor was kidnapped from Haripur and was shot dead by the kidnappers after police attacked their hideout in Taxila.
