Water shortage: Sukkur suffers as barrage closed

SUKKUR: This year the closure of Sindh Barrage resulted in an acute water shortage in the city because alternate arrangements were not made in time. Almost half of the city faces a dire shortage of drinking water, which include New Pind, Microwave Colony and New Goth areas. The press secretary of the Sukkur Small Traders, Barkat Solangi, said that the people living in New Pind usually get water twice a week but there had been a shortage since January 6, when the barrage was closed. The officials of Sukkur’s water utility said that they hired 10 water tankers. But they are not enough to meet the needs of more than half of the city.
