KARACHI:

The hearing of a number of petitions pertaining to non-confirmation of two judges was deferred till January 23 after both the judges, Irfan Sadaat Khan and Ghulam Sarwar Korai, came forward and moved applications to become party to the petitions.

Barrister Makhdoom Ali Khan filed the applications on behalf of the two judges who were not confirmed on the recommendation of a parliamentary committee despite recommendations by the judicial commission.

Earlier, the full bench comprising Justice Maqbool Bqar, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, during a previous hearing raised objections on how the record of the proceedings of a parliamentary committee could be given to the petitioner bar associations and a private person having no locus standi.

On Monday, the two former judges agreed that the parliamentary committee record pertaining to their case be provided to the counsel representing the Sindh government as well the petitioner bar councils including the Sukkur Bar Association and Sindh High Court Bar Association.

The bench, allowing the applications, put off the proceedings till January 23 when substantial proceedings are expected as now all formalities and technicalities causing a delay are over.
