According to the research, sitting at a desk all day means you are more likely to slump on the sofa at home and perform no exercise.
The average office worker spends five hours 41 minutes daily at their desk, almost as long as the seven hours they spend sleeping, the Daily Express reported.
These desk-bound workers are more likely to turn into couch potatoes, increasing their risk of obesity, says the researchers at the Loughborough University, a research-based campus university in Britain's Leicestershire county.
The trend is partly blamed on technology making it simpler for lazy people at offices to email a colleague rather than walking over to see them, it adds.
