KARACHI:
The National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (NIDE), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), organised a week-long free consultation and a free test camp at its Ojha campus. The camp was inaugrated on Tuesday by the vice chancellor of DUHS, and the director of NIDE.
Prof. Shaikh said that 10 per cent of the people in the country suffer from diabetes and out of them 46 per cent were women and 54 per cent were men. But more women die of complications than men, though.
According to Shaikh, complications mostly develop in the retina of the eyes, kidneys and the heart because most of the patients do not take adequate insulin doses.
