PESHAWAR:

The Academic Council of Khyber Medical University (KMU) has approved two new masters’ programmes in four disciplines.

KMU Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Hafizullah gave the green signal to introduce the courses during a meeting held at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences on Monday.

The courses include Masters in Physical Therapy with specialisation in two disciplines, Musculoskeletal and Neurological Physiotherapy and Masters in Public Health with specialisation in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD).

The two-year programmes have been designed to meet international standards, fulfilling the criteria for further education and opening up job opportunities.

The MCH programme focuses on health issues among women and children in developing countries and aims to acquaint students with the epidemiology of common diseases.

Similarly, the NCD programme aims to provide an introduction to key areas and methodologies in epidemiology of non-communicable diseases.

The council also approved a six-month certificate course in health education.

The programme, which has been designed for medical teachers, aims to expose them to basic and applied concepts of medical education.

During the meeting, the Equivalence Committee, Plagiarism Committee, Institutional Graduate Study Committee and Institutional Board of Studies  were also approved by the council.
