FAISALABAD:

The National Institute for Biology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) will organise a three-day workshop on molecular diagnosis of dengue virus on February 1, said a press release issued on Sunday. The molecular diagnosis method can be useful in diagnosing the disease in early stages. A spokesman said the disease affected people in more than 100 countries every year, causes from 50 million to 100 million acute cases.

He said last year’s dengue outbreak in the country should be taken as a warning to adopt efficient preventive and diagnostic measures to prevent a similar outbreak this year.

He said with the current method to diagnose the disease it was difficult to distinguish it from normal fever in the early stages. He said a more efficient and precise molecular diagnosis of dengue fever developed by the institute will be demonstrated at the workshop.

The statement said those interested in participating in the conference should submit applications along with their resumes to the institute up to January 15. It said more information in this regard could be obtained from Dr Abdul Haque, NIBGE course organiser.
