Imagine being handed a cold, creamy, rich, three-tier ice-cream with all your favourite flavours. Now think of the ice-cream falling down splat on the floor before you can even have your first slurp. In terms of Pakistani entertainment — that’s exactly how the year 2011 turned out to be. It started with high hopes and great expectations but ended on a pessimistic note with epic disappointments and mega failures.
Worst film — Love Mein Ghum
Our expectations for Reema’s directorial effort sprang up like the Egyptian revolution. Instead of bearing fruit, all our hopes died a horrendous death way too soon. A few tips for the director:
1) It’s about time you embraced some older roles as it is visually impossible for you to play a college girl.
2) The male lead’s blond highlights and fair and lovely rung cannot and will not make him look Caucasian. With the budgets you have, hiring a real gora to play the character of Wilson couldn’t have been too difficult.
3) Not even the picturesque background of Malaysia or HSY prancing in the film’s promotional video could cover up a bad plot and equally horrendous acting. Next time, it would make more sense to spend more money on getting a good writer on board as opposed to spending moolah on the location of the film.
Worst song — “Dane pe Dana” — Komal Rizvi
If it wasn’t embarrassing enough watching Komal Rizvi act like Annie for her big comeback, she decided to torture us more with her “Dane pe Dana” rendition on “Coke Studio”. Her face contortions combined with her awful singing made this classic song gag worthy for us.
Worst Model — Fiza Ali
After having seen model Fiza Ali jump from posing to cooking in traditional Punjabi garb to hosting a morning show, we make a humble request for Ali to give-up on any and all endeavours which may include modelling, acting, hosting, singing, cooking, talking and breathing.
Worst Actor — Ali Zafar
A long time ago we thought Ali Zafar was sorta, kinda, maybe a little cute. When he was offered a role in a Bollywood production, we were positively ecstatic for him. But after finding out that Zafar played the second lead in a badly-acted, badly-scripted, too predictable Bollywood production, we felt utterly betrayed. Even the little acting he was allowed to do in the film did not stand out in any positive way. So for 2012, we really do hope Zafar stays in London, Paris, New York and not anywhere near us!
Worst advertisement — Ufone commercials
In 2010, Ufone advertisements seemed clutter-breaking, interesting and hilarious. However, by 2011, they seemed repetitive, uninteresting and lacking creativity. Somewhere along the line, Ufone executives got too lazy to alter or change up their marketing strategy and started relying primarily on the antics of Faisal Qureshi and his gang of comedians.

Correction: Due to an editing error, an earlier version of the article stated Love Mein Ghum as Reema's first directional effort. The error has been rectified.

Really good judgement....I also believe the same Love mein gum was worst Dane Pe Dana , actually Komal should first learn that it was Dane Pa Dana Ali Zafar: i dont like his singing nor acting Honestly i didnt notice this Fiza Ali
So, what do we got here? Another bad Article. First i hated the Article's which used to Criticize PTI & now i hate this article more than those.
Let's start off.
1) Love Mein Ghum?. Bad movie, it wasnt a bad movie at all. I havent seen the movie yet, but after hearing the reviews i can say this.
2) Dannah Pe Dannah - Worst song?. Well, Dannah Pe Dannah was the best song of that particular episode. Jal was quiet bad, compared to Komal Rizvi.
3) Fizza Ali - No comments.
4) Ali Zafar - The worst part of the article. LOL Someone should write an article & give this article the name of the Worst Article. Can we grow up now?. That guy acted in 2 Bollywood films. Both were at the top of the lists. He's known as the sexiest man in Asia, and how can you say he was the worst Actor of 2011?. You can get 100 of bollywood actor's who act more badly than Ali.
5)
2012 has started with a colossal letdown with this kind of absurd article. Lol going on to say that a person should stop breathing because one doesn't like them reminds one of ''gali-muhallay' type women fights :P
I agree with the other comments here which praise Ali Zafar's acting.. He is not only good looking and can act well, he is quite an intelligent guy too.. Every interview i have seen of him he speaks sense and he looks level headed and very grounded... I sure hope he goes on from strength to strength and leaves behind a legacy..
I don't agree with you...Ali zafar is a good actor and pls don't say that ufone commercials are not good...they are good.....your article doesnt make any sense.....
WORST AMBASSIDOR - Veena Malik?
You have exaggerated way too much!! And the things you have portrayed as bad were not that bad rather they were good.
Ufone and Ali Zafar doesnt belong to this list.
Wao, seems like most of those who commented don't agree with the author But more importantly, instead of making a list of the worst of the worst of 2011, shouldn't we focus on what has been good in 2011?
Ali Zafar is a good actor... Please try to appreciate someone's effort...
Your article doesnt make any sense.. Love main ghum was not that bad of a movie and Ali Zafar's acting is superb.. Tribune should have some sort of sense before publishing such biased articles
Very Harsh.
I agree with everything mentioned. Thank you for writing it and making me feel normal. :)
I don't agree with most of this article!!!
This article is FAIL!
nice article! Peoples' sentiments exactly!!
Worst actor was Atif Aslam forsure. Ali Zafar was far more better. The guy knows how to act.
Saba Khalid, this has to be the worst article to come out of ET Life and Style in 2011.
I wouldn't say anything about the Ali Zafar film cause it was ok.. But Ufone commericials have always rocked.. Each ufone commercial is still celebrated and loved by the general public.. I think you need to have a little sense of humour to truly appreciate the effort...
I beg your pardon? Last time I checked, these were the names that were carrying slash delivering Pakistan's image around VERY well. Why is it that every time somebody does something so well from our country, we end up criticizing them so incredibly much? It's only yesterday that I heard a couple of my Indian friends here in UK, talk about how awesome a singer Ali Zafar is. And GUESS WHAT? They'd only found out about him ever since he started acting! And oh, trust me, when I say he is doing quite well as an actor, HE REALLY IS. What he does is his business and as far as I am concerned. He is very much a Pakistani and where ever he goes, he promotes a positive image of the country. Tribune should stop posting such biased articles; for we expect better from you.
The worst article of 2012. Express Tribune should actually get something good for their website instead of posting such rubbish content.
Who said Ali Zafar was the worst Actor? He acted in 2 Bollywood films until now & has received a huge amount of success. Both his movies were in the top 5. A guy who is representing Pakistan in other countries, you gave him the name of the Worst Actor?. WOW !!
Stop criticizing your own people when they are doing something good for Pakistan.
Atif Aslam was the worst actor of 2011 hands down. Ali Zafar is an excellent actor
I really enjoyed "Dane pe Dana". I haven't watched for the facial expressions that seem to be bothering the author but the song itself seems to have overwhelmingly positive comments on youtube....
This article seems embarrassing.
First, Love mein Ghum was not Reems directorial debut, it was Koi Tujh sa Kahan. Second, DPD was one of the hit numbers of CS and the year 2011. Third, the writer should have included Veena Malik instead of Fiza Ali. Fourth. Ali did a viable job in MBKD. Atleast he has put Pakistan's name forth in a better way.
I wonder what the writers source of information. Simply disagree with the list.
Dana pe dana was a superhit, ali zafar got alot of appreciation on his movie.
Worst Article: 2011 – The year of colossal letdowns by Saba Khalid
1) Love Mein Ghum was not Reema's first movie as Director 2) Ali Zafar was praised for his acting in Pakistan and across the border so he was definitely not the worst actor last year. 3) How Fiza Ali and Komal Rizvi could fall into the category of colossal letdowns? 4) None of that actually makes 2011 a YEAR of colossal letdowns
first things first - Y u so NEGATIVE??
now coming to your article 'Ms. Glass Full Empty':
yeah Reema's film wasn't good - the end... why was anyone expecting her to make an Oscar winning movie at the first place... remember its Lollywood - only exceptionally boring and 'though provoking' (read: Snooze fest) films like Bol Or the gujjar films work here - so its kinda pointless stating the obvious.
here i will give you points - it was Painful - ear torture at its extreme! (wasn't that light on the eyes though!)
Ok Fiza may be immature and all that tacky, but i guess she can model alright - but yeah there should be complete ban on her speaking on air!
Come ON!! MBKD was probably the only Indian movie i have seen in years - although predictable as any love story would have been, Ali Zafar did a tremendous job!
Dunno what you are talking about - still find them funny! now if the company's Return on Advertisement isn't meeting its objectives then that's a totally different issue - bu nonetheless Entertaining ads!Ali Zafar is doing his job well. This is the first worst article i read in 2012.
I was surprised to see Ali Zafar and Ufone Commercials in this so call list of Worst everything and i still am and wondering what was the writer thinking and the person who actually approved this to be published. Then again, free nation, free to express so good to go :D
My opinion: Ali Zafar did well in the movie and Ufone Ads were good (If you have actually seen them :D)
