"We have released 179 Indian fishermen and a civilian prisoner who had completed their sentences," prisons chief for southern Sindh Ghulam Qadir Thebo told AFP.
They were sent to Lahore by bus, where they will cross the Pakistan-India border on Sunday, he said. He added that 360 other Indian prisoners, mostly fishermen, remained in jail.
Pakistan and India frequently seize each other's fishermen, accusing them of violating their respective zones in the Arabian Sea.

Sikandar-e-Azam Sani s/o Muhammad Khalid Butt presently confined in the central jail, kot Bhalwal, Jammu has completed his 6-months additional rigorous imprisonment on 20th January, 2012. Lodgement Certificate issued by the Superintendent C.J. Kot Bhalwal, Jammu transpired that a fine of Rs. 3000/- has also been deposited on 30th December, 2011. The process of consular access and verification/confirmation of his nationality status being a Pakistani national has already been completed. Pakistani High Commission is fully aware about this case. Confinement/detention after serving the jail term seems to be illegal & unlawful.
@ Gul
Why do u have to use these words "Hindu Troll" idiot!? We have Pakistani hindus as well, and i am proud of them and remember Jinnah saab was an ambasaddor of muslim-hindu unity! Dont drag religion every time in a discussion!
@USMANm:
I have pointed out this almost 1000 times. All these Hindu Trolls will always appear under the guise of someone else but Indian name because they fear something or are into inferiority complex of some kind. Whatever the reason is, they must use their original Hindu names. Now, as far as whining is concerned, I have already written off Indian in all thing. They are not even worth that you waste your time on them or answering them or try to convince them. Just ignore them. You will see better results. They come here for attention because in their own country no one give a damn to them either. If you are trying to convince them through logic, My advice is give it up it will not work for their small RSS Hindu brains. Rather spend your time in some productive activity and you will be better off.
@ all Pakistanis: I am a middle class Indian and there are some who hold hawkish views about Pakistan but majority of Indians want peaceful and friendly relations. I can vouch for that. I thank you with wholeheartedness the gesture shown by Pakistani government in releasing 179 Indian fishermen. I also pray and hope that the Indian government should also show some magnanimity in releasing Pakistani fishermen if any.
We love our pakistani brothers for this kind gesture, India pakistan are moving towards achieving a regional stability and learning to live in peace harmony and like good neighbours. Hope to see similar gestures from both countries in future too.
"Hina" , how are we a coward nation?
we helped liberate afghanistan against your friend USSR. we liberated 1/3rd of Kashmir against an enemy 10 times our size. we are the only airforce to defeat israeli jets.
compare this to your record against a country only slightly bigger than you (China).
some day you will get what you deserve.
hedgefunder, right now more people starve in Indian than the whole world combined.... so I would think twice before taking shots..
Look at these Indians with wonderful names like "hedgefunder" and "cautious" and "super-hero" or muslim names like "hina". Whether pakistan frees their trespassing fishmermen or save their sailors from somali pirates... they just want to complain on our newspapers.
“We have released 179 Indian fishermen and a civilian prisoner who had completed their sentences,” . Does that imply that you were imprisoning them after they had already completed their jail sentences - or that you arrested 170 fishermen on the same day?
Well its just less mouths to feed for them, as it is things are pretty tough at present for them !!!
@Hina: And they should'nt either !!! But they have not learned anything from it, except to blame others and live in denials !!
Pakistani are not able to forget 16/12/1971
hunh in the comments i only find one indian thanking... maybe other ones are not happy with the release...or thanking pakistan would be against their ego?
@krishna
How do you know they are actually fishermen and not RAW or ISI agents pretending to be fishermen trying to get to the other side or on a spy mission?
These narrow minded hate filled indians will never appreciate the act no matter how much "meherban" we get with them, so its absolutely worthless
Get our poor guys from their jails who are still rotting in there even after completion of their jail terms.
Why arrest fishermen who strayed into other side?. Isn't it cheaper and kind to let them go to their homes instead of jailing them.
We are our worst enemies!
@waqas: I strongly advise to not just read the headlines and comment. Please read the whole article. It says: ‘We have released 179 Indian fishermen and a civilian prisoner who had completed their sentences’. If there is no hatred towards Indians, could you please show it by releasing the balance of 360 prisoners. Do I hear silence?
Thank you good work guys well we Indians don't hate all Pakistanis only certain extremist elements wanting to negotiate with a gun to our head. Once again thank you.
@Hina, Yes, Pakistan is indeed a "cowered" nation if by "cowered," you mean "covered." Pakistan is covered by air, and clouds and smoke. Some even tell me that there are birds and planes flying over Pakistan. As for the article, I believe that detaining lost fishermen at sea is immoral. If some fisherman wander into Pakistani waters on accident, they should be questioned and released. It is the "Pak" as in "pure" thing to do.
Sir Creek and the issue of exclusive economic zone., if any one care to know the background. It is time for PAK to listen to India and agree to the 1925 demarcation rather than claiming that the rule of high seas does not apply here. Canada and US has a short strip of lake water separating them and the rule of high seas apply there, navigable water or not.
Good work. Though I dont think it will have any effect on Indian minds.

Because Pakistani is a cowered Nation !
still Indians will keeps hating us and blaming us for everything, and they (indians) always claims our hatred is so deep rooted!
