LAHORE:

A consumer court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Mian Ijaz, the senior vice chairman of the Hafeez Centre Traders Welfare League, for ignoring the court’s verdict that he pay Rs10,000 in damages and give a new mobile phone to a customer.

This was the ninth time that the court has issued arrest warrants for Ijaz, who has consistently refused to appear before the court or comply with its orders.

Shahid Miraj had moved the court against Ijaz, stating he had sold him a faulty phone and refused to replace it. He said that the phone had started giving him problems shortly after he bought it for Rs5,100 from New AA Mobile Shop in Hafeez Centre in May 2009. He said he sent the phone to the respondent to repair but two weeks later Ijaz told him he had sent it to another shop for repair. Miraj said that he was never able to recover the phone and sought Rs20,000 in damages as well as a new phone. The court ruled in Miraj’s favour on October 11, 2010. Ijaz said he had rented out the shop to Malik Nadeem and it was he who Miraj had bought the phone from.
