ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Wednesday that the Cabinet had decided to make all possible efforts, including providing additional financial support, to increase power generation by at least 1200 MW.

Talking to the media after a Cabinet meeting, she said that the Cabinet had directed the energy committee to review the loadshedding situation  every two days and take steps accordingly.

Awan added that the Cabinet had decided to give an additional subsidy of Rs15 billion to the power generation sector to reduce load shedding. This subsidy would be in addition to the Rs10 billion already allocated for this sector.

She mentioned that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had said unscheduled loadshedding should be discouraged and steps should be taken to undo this practice.
