Express January 03, 2012

It’s already been a couple of days since the new year started; which means we can officially start looking ahead — a future of promise and potential. What this year will bring in terms of movies is one of the most exciting parts of the prediction game. Below is the list of some of the most awaited films to come this year.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2

The movie franchise that has got everyone talking is undoubtedly Twilight. The upcoming final instalment will see the Volturi swoop in on the ever-expanding Cullen clan, promising more action and excitement than the rest of the films put together.

The Dark Knight Rises

The highly-anticipated Bat-man sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, is all about the mix of old school characters as well as fresh blood, which comes largely in the form of the menacing and brutal Bane — Batman’s ultimate nemesis.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Mirror Mirror, the other upcoming Snow White film, has Julia Roberts, but this Snow White movie has Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart. In an interesting twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman, ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed, winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

2012 looks like it will be a busy year for Martin Freeman, as away from his pirate antics he is also playing one of the most legendary characters in English literary history; the Hobbit. The movie revolves around Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, who journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug.

The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists

The attention to detail in The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists is astounding, as is the amount of comedy stuffed into every scene. The movie looks set to be the most exciting pirate based film in years. Hugh Grant heads the fantastic voice cast and is joined by the vocal talents of David Tennant, Salma Hayek and Martin Freeman.
