Gilani congratulates Ebad for being longest serving governor of Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday telephoned Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad and congratulated him for being the longest serving governor of the province.

The Prime Minister said Ebad’s long term shows his consideration for the interest of Sindh and the federation.

Gilani further lauded Ebad’s “strong and endurable” role in maintaining the coalition between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). “Ebad has proved himself as a strong bridge between the two parties,” Gilani said.

Ebad, who completed his ninth year of governorship in 2011, became Sindh’s 30^th governor in December 2002, succeeding Mohammad Mian Soomro.

During the recent rift between the PPP and the MQM in 2011 after the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, Ebad resigned from his post in protest along with many MQM ministers. However President Asif Ali Zardari requested Altaf Hussain to allow Ebad back as governor, to which Hussain agreed.
