MULTAN:
Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director (MD) Yousuf Baig Mirza said on Sunday that PTV will launch its sports channel in January.
Mirza was speaking to the media in Multan.
While explaining the concept behind starting a new channel, Mirza said that this new venture will help Pakistan promote its sports.
“The channel is not aimed at taking away other channels’ market share but will be a healthy competition,” said Mirza.
The PTV MD said that the channel will be launched by the middle of January 2012.
“Through this new channel, we will promote our regional sports,” Mirza said. “It will also create employment opportunities but most importantly, will motivate our younger generation towards sports,” PTV MD added.
Mirza explained that the current government wants to motivate Pakistani youth towards healthy activities and so a new sports channel will be very beneficial in this regard.
Mirza also said that this venture will help create a sports-friendly environment in the country. He further added that all international and national tournaments would be telecasted on the channel.
“PTV sports channel already has the right of broadcasting any future Pakistan-India series,” Mirza said.
The PTV MD further added that the “people of Pakistan will find it as a unique sports channel.”
Talking about the idea behind PTV productions, Mirza said that PTV dramas focus on promoting the culture and traditions of Pakistan.
