The Supreme Court on Saturday announced that it would take up PPP leader Babar Awan’s alleged derogatory press conference on the memo case on January 4.
The order passed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry stated that after an examination of the Awan press conference and reactions from the attorney general and prime minister, the court felt that it was appropriate to take up the matter.
Following the apex court’s decision to form a one-member commission headed by former FIA DG Tariq Khosa to probe the Memogate case, Awan addressed a press conference rejecting the decision and questioning its motives.
On December 30, while delivering a verdict on the maintainability of memo case petitions, the chief justice termed the press conference contemptuous and called for its transcript in his chamber.
The Supreme Court in its order said, “…the order of the court was criticised contemptuously,” adding that Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, was referred in terms which prima facie were “contemptuous”.

Nation will rejoice if the SC charge him & his accomplice in context of contempt of court....that will be a good example for others...
Be kar ma baash kuchh kiya kar/////-- Well done supreme court o
Would the SC probe the murder of Pakistanis or would it restrict itself to probing the remarks of politicians? Dr. Shah was murdered. Salim Shehzad was murdered. Salman Taseer, Shahbaz Bhatti were murdered. Tens of thousands of Pakistanis have been murdered over the years. What qualifies to be probed by a court? A life? Or, a remark, a letter?
Mr Montichello's (or whatever cherry/marmalade degree Awan has purchased) come uppance is long overdue.
SC will be setting a good example by holding him contemptuous to the highest court and to the public as well. Justice should be served from 'top to the bottom' the beauty of any civilized nation. In the same breath I highly doubt it that he'll be charged.
If we have a Supreme Court we must believe in its impartiality. Those who challenge the Supreme Court, cut the branch we all sit on. If the SC feels that 'prima facie' the remarks were contemptuous, the right thing is to examine the transcript and determine other relevant conditions before issuing a judgement. The SC is doing the right thing? That is what you as the reader must decide and then suggest what the SC should have done.
Yes it should be investigated, and rubbishers like awan should be brought forward to the public. Plus I wish an open trial for awan broadcasted on all networks.
He was rubbishing his mouth and making false alligations.
Even PPP leaders were astonished at him bieng "Shah say ziyada shah parast"
Is there any other way that the PCO SC can show it is hostile against the elected govt? Why is the SC not moving against Mush who threw them in jail with their families? As the time goes by Mush's decision is looking better and better. This SC has nothing else to do except looking for petty cases as a lower trial court.
