Deteriorating law and order

Letter December 31, 2011
Perhaps the ruling party will devote some attention to the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi.

KARACHI: This is with reference to the news item “Armed robbery: JPMC’s Dr Saleem Kharal shot dead in Karachi” (December 31, 2011). Now that Professor Saleem Ahmed Kharal (brother of the PPP lawmaker Naeem Ahmed Kharal) has been killed in a car snatching attempt, perhaps the ruling party will devote some attention to the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi. But I doubt anyone at the helm of affairs will do anything, as they are told daily by their sycophants that all is well in the country and all negative news is a conspiracy against the ruling party by the media. If they have not yet noticed the scandalous waste of taxpayer’s money, I can help remind them; outside Dr Zulfiqar Mirza’s house in DHA, among the six police mobiles permanently stationed there (even when he and his wife are not in Karachi), one van has been rendered completely useless by bird droppings and corrosion. In any other civilised country, the people responsible for such negligence would have been sent to jail, but alas, this being Pakistan, these criminals will instead be promoted.
