Officials from the district administration organised a distribution ceremony for the families and guided them about facilities available to them in their new homes.
According to district officials, the project cost about Rs80 million and is organised in the form of small villages. Ninety houses have been constructed in the rural area of Qismaal while 160 have been built in Basti Houti, Basti Qismani and Basti Lashari in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Biogas supply, a proper sewerage system and potable water units have also been installed in these model villages. Medical dispensaries have also been built.
“They [the families] have been provided small electricity units and these model villages have state-of-the-art facilities,” PML-N MNA Saifuddin Khosa, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, told The Express Tribune. Each village, he said, comprises 30 to 50 houses, depending on availability of facilities.
Primary school units and parks are also included in these model villages, said DCO Iftikhar Ali.
“There are also small technical training institute units to end their dependency on local landlords.”
Ali said that on special directives by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, small veterinary centres to examine livestock of flood-hit families have also been set up.
