Social menace: ‘Beggars earn Rs35,000 a month’

The representatives of different social and welfare organisations said this on Saturday.

KARACHI: The representatives of different social and welfare organisations said that a beggar, on average, earned Rs30,000 to Rs35,000 per month. They shared this during a meeting with the additional commissioner of Karachi, Wahab Soomro, on Saturday. Soomro said that the government lacked resources to establish shelter homes for beggars, and appealed to welfare organisations to come forward for help. He suggested that people do not give money to professional beggars.
