Horse racing: Jhalwan wins Quaid-i-Azam Cup

KARACHI: Jhalwan clinched the Quaid-i-Azam Cup at the Karachi Racecourse, while The Dictator grabbed the 2000 Guineas of Pakistan title after beating the favourite National Lady. The Invisible outran Frankenstein to secure the AKD Nursery Cup.

Jhalwan bagged the most prestigious annual horse racing event, a race for four-year-old horses, that offers a prize money of Rs600,000. Jhalwan outran Jhalwan Blue and favourite Quality Road in the 12-furlong (2.4 kilometres) race.

Meanwhile, in the 2000 Guineas of Pakistan race, The Dictator outran the National Lady and Colt Dazzling Danehill. The race comprised three-year-old colts competing for a prize money of Rs350,000.

In another race, The Invisible bagged the Rs250,000 AKD Nursery Cup ahead of Frankenstein and Easy to Walk to complete the top three.

In the Christmas Cup, Aftershock stunned favourites Barcelona and Honour and Glory to take home Rs85,000 as prize money. Reach the Sky finished second while Barcelona finished the race in third place.
