WAPDA sink Navy in football league

Replace KESC in fourth place after 2-0 win in PPFL.

KARACHI:
Wapda leaped into fourth place in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) after handing out a 2-0 defeat to Pakistan Navy in Islamabad.

After a goal-less first half, Wapda captain Arif Mehmood struck twice, in the 80th and 82nd minute, to put Navy out of contention as last year’s champions rose in the PPFL table, replacing KESC in fourth place. The win took their tally to 51 points in 29 matches while Navy’s campaign ended on 35.

“It’s a good feeling that we are finally among the top five teams,” Wapda coach Sharafat Ali told The Express Tribune. “We failed to successfully defend our title this year but I believe that the team bounced back well after having a torrid start to their PPFL campaign.

“We were languishing at 10th place and many of our players were injured. But Mehmood’s return changed our fortunes. With one match to go, I’m sure that we’ll finish among the top five,” added Ali.
