Preventive Measures: PGMI to follow ‘Thailand model’ in dengue defence

Pakistani doctors who recently visited Thailand to learn how they handle dengue fever will help prepare a set of standard operating procedures for dengue prevention and treatment at Lahore General Hospital and the Post Graduate Medical Institute, said the principal of the institute on Wednesday.

“Lahore General Hospital will follow the Thailand model while preparing SOPs to curb dengue,” said Prof Tariq Salahuddin. He said the training of Pakistani doctors in Thailand had been very successful and their recommendations on a strategy to combat the disease will be submitted to the Punjab government. “The Bangkok administration has appointed one official for every 15 houses to disseminate information and updates about diseases,” he said. The PGMI will attempt to replicate this in Lahore except using students and social workers instead of officials, he said.
