LAHORE: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) election held on December 18. Petitioner Javed Saleem Qureshi, who ran for the post of chairman, alleged rigging and other irregularities in the election process. Qureshi said that many voters were prevented from exercising their right to vote; at many polling stations, particularly in interior Sindh, there was no system to verify voters; and the appointment of the convener of the election committee violated the rules as he was not a professional. The petitioner asked that the election be declared void and fresh polls be ordered under the supervision of an impartial head of the Pakistan Engineering Council and independent election committee.
