The PTI’s swelling ranks

Letter December 21, 2011
The challenge for the PTI is that unlike the PPP, it lacks popular support.

KNOXVILLE, TN, US: This is with reference to your editorial of December 22 titled “The PTI’s swelling ranks”. The challenge for the PTI is that unlike the PPP, it lacks popular support. In addition, Imran Khan does not have the charisma of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto nor the emotional attachment that the public had with Benazir. Hence, he will have no choice but to bring electable candidates into his party’s fold, even if they have a chequered past. Benazir Bhutto had the opportunity to bring in new faces into the PPP fold and they would still have won their seats on the basis of her popularity, but Imran Khan does not have that luxury.
