Aqeel off to flying start in tennis event

Pakistan number one outclasses opponent in first-round action.

KARACHI: Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan began his campaign at the UBL International Hard-Court Tennis Championship in style as he beat Muhammad Muddassir 6-4, 6-0, while second-seed Yasir Khan outplayed Usman Rafiq 6-0,6-3 in the first round of the  men’s singles event.

The Sri Lankan duo taking part in the tournament also registered wins as Thangarjah Dineshkant crushed Muhammad Mazhar 6-0,6-0, while Nadaraja Nishangan thrashed Ali Murad 6-1, 6-1 to move into the second round.

Meanwhile, the women’s event saw Shahida Farooq Kausar outclass Rubina Israr 6-1, 6-2, while Wanmia Khan defeated Uksha Rafiq 6-0, 6-0 to move ahead in the tournament.
