Sports day: Flying daredevils, flower children steal the day

Saint Francis School, Hayatabad organised a colourful annual Inter-House Athletics Sports Meet for 2010-11 here on Saturday to highlight the significance of sports in grooming a healthy society.


Students of Saint Francis exhibited their skills while taking part in a parade, gymnastics and other sports.

During the course of the year, students took part in games, including badminton, volleyball, basketball, chess, netball, cricket, gymnastics, and other athletics. Yellow House won the overall trophy due to their outstanding performance.

Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Director General (DG) Qazi Laique Ahmed was the chief guest. Saint Francis High School Principal Francis Sales Fernando, teachers, parents, and students attended the ceremony.

The DG said the promotion of sports activities is essential for building a healthy society. He said the PDA has a mandate to promote sport activities through the provision of playgrounds, greenbelts and parks for the promotion of healthy activities.

The PDA DG also announced Rs5,000 each for the gymnasts and band members at the concluding ceremony.

Earlier, Principal Fernando acknowledged the active participation of students in sports throughout the year.

He also explained the aims and objectives of the school in the promotion of academic and extra-curricular activities.
