LAHORE:

Denouncing talks of any threat to democracy, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Friday that Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani does not want to derail the democratic system in the country.

While addressing the media, Sharif added that the army chief was “very clear” in his approach.

The chief minister warned that if any unconstitutional step was taken, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will “resist it tooth and nail”.

Replying to a question, he said that the issue of memogate should be thoroughly investigated.

Later, replying to the questions of ambassadors, Sharif added that while the PML-N cherishes relations with the US, the interests of the country cannot be bargained away.

He said that the May 2 Abbottabad incident, the Raymond Davis incident, and the attack at Salala Check Post on November 26 have badly damaged Pak-America relations.
