ISLAMABAD:

The Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE) formed a three-member committee on Friday to probe into the ransacking of the board’s office.

The committee was formed after Punjab Education Minister Mian Mujtuba Shujaur Rehman and the education secretary held a meeting with the principals of government and private colleges at Government College Asghar Mall on Friday.

The three-member committee comprises the principals of Asghar Mall College and Hashmat Ali College, and one RBISE official. The committee will probe the matter and prepare a report on it.

One member of the committee told The Express Tribune that “the committee will examine all aspects of the incident and the most important thing we must learn is what led students to burn down the office”.

During the meeting, the education minister assured the principals that the board will announce the revised result on December 24. However, he asked them to ensure that their students behave responsibly after the announcement.

Separately, the New Town Police released dozens of students who were arrested yesterday after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Member National Assembly Hanif Abbasi gave personal surety for them. A First Information Report was registered against unidentified persons.

On Thursday, The RBISE office was torched after students emptied the office of staff and used Molotov cocktails to set the building on fire. They later damaged fire trucks and street signs before police finally resorted to using tear gas to break the crowd.

A board official also revealed that the pass percentage will drop from 49% to around 21% after over 105,000 mistakes were found in checking.
