MADRID: Albert Costa quit his post as Spain’s Davis Cup team captain to take up a new position as head of the country’s selection committee, the Spanish tennis federation announced. Costa recently steered Spain to their fifth Davis Cup triumph but will end his tenure to head a new committee which will decide who represents the country in future events including the Davis Cup, Fed Cup and Olympics. “After three fantastic years in charge of the team, I take up this new challenge and responsibility with enthusiasm,” said Costa. Spain’s future captain now faces a challenge as Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer have announced they will not participate in the 2012 edition of the tournament.
