Boxing: Amir Khan appeals against verdict

British boxer Amir Khan has lodged an appeal with regard to his controversial defeat to Lamont Peterson over the weekend, according to espn.co.uk.

Khan lost his WBA and IBF light-welterweight belts to the American following a controversial points-defeat in Washington DC. The Briton was docked two points for pushing his opponent, which he felt cost him the fight, and an examination of the rulebook has prompted Khan to appeal.

“The appeal has gone to both the WBA and IBF and we should get the verdict in the next 10 days,” Khan told Daily Mail. “We had to do it because so many wrong things happened, not least being docked points.

“We’ve checked the rulebook, and pushing an opponent away doesn’t carry a point deduction. Also, the referee should’ve stopped and warned me I was about to lose a point. It’s important that justice is done or fighters will stop going to Washington.”

Khan wants re-match

Irrespective of the appeal outcome, Khan is hopeful of securing a re-match with Peterson on neutral ground. Both fighters have expressed their willingness to arrange an immediate re-match, with Las Vegas seemingly Khan’s preferred venue.

“I don’t think the re-match will be in the UK, I don’t think he’ll want to come here,” said Khan. “Anywhere but DC would be fine. When I beat Peterson, I don’t want him to say the same thing happened to him as it did to me. I want neutral judging, a neutral referee.”

Peace to everyone at last we got some genuine people accepting the fact Khan was robbed by the refree and judges can't wait for rematch khan did say after launching the apoeal regardless of the out come win lose he will give peterson rematch one thing though khan needs to be little more humble because i did not really like him when he was using BOTTLE AND BALLS in the post match i reckon he will win very convincingly in the rematch i say good luck to both boxers peace to the boxing world.

@ Alfred finally a smart comment by some one. Alfred I myself was there at the fight and saw both fighters fight their heart out at each other. Peterson is no doubt a great fighter and did his job, but Khan was forcedfully stopped about 2-3 times while he was throwing his punches at Peterson bye the ref. I spoke to one of Peterson's supporter who said it himself that the ref. purposely stopped Khan's punches esp. in the last rounds which shows how the ref was and caused Khan not to gain those extra points which would help him defeat Peterson with the obvious unanimous decision. Let's see how things turnout and justice is done:)
