New appointment: Gorchani made new police chief

Gorchani transferred to Sindh police force from Islamabad.

KARACHI:

Akhtar Hussain Gorchani has been appointed the next police chief of Karachi, according to officials at the home and police departments. Gorchani was recently transferred to the Sindh police force from Islamabad.

Officials within the Sindh police and home department said that although he served as SSP West and Assistant IG in Karachi before, his experience is still limited. Gorchani was one of the directors of security at the presidency before he was transferred. Gorchani is considered to be a favourite of Pakistan Peoples Party leadership and is expected to toe the line as given by Home Minister Manzoor Wassan. His son, Sardar Athar Ali Khan, is an elected MPA in the Punjab Assembly from Rajanpur.
