Last week, KESC send a defamation notice to the leadership of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and asked the president of KCCI to apologise or pay Rs1 billion, for allegedly defaming the utility.
The leadership of KCCI and seven town associations of Karachi criticised the KESC management for giving notice to the representative body of over 17,000 industrialists of the city. They met at the KCCI office to formulate a strategy in response. KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the notice to KCCI is tantamount to a notice to the 17,000 members who regularly pay bills.
“KESC made a mistake by sending us a defamation notice,” he said.
Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Chairman Ehtesham Uddin said that industrialists do not want to start any war of words with KESC management. “What we want is continuous supply of electricity and this is what we demand from KESC and government,” he said.
