Verdict: Court acquits two PPP leaders

RAWALPINDI:
A local court here on Monday acquitted Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Naheed Khan of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in a high court rumpus case. Civil Judge Muhammad Akram heard the case against PPP leaders including Ashraf, Khan and Shahzada Kausar Gilani. The prosecution witnesses did not appear before the court despite several summonses, after which the court absolved the two leaders. According to reports, in 1998, the three leaders threw ink on a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officer and created a fracas, due to which a case was registered against PPP members by a high court registrar. However, the judicial magistrate declared Gilani a pronounced absconder and issued arrest warrants due to his continuous absence from court.
