Golf: Quiros, Donald bask in Dubai glory

DUBAI: Spain’s Alvaro Quiros won the Dubai World Championship in style when he rolled in a long eagle putt on the 18th green to win by two shots. Quiros closed with a five-under par 67 for a 19-under par total of 269, three better than Scotland’s Paul Lawrie, who finished second at 17-under par. However, world number one Luke Donald assured himself the lion’s share of the plaudits after he became the new European number one by winning the European Tour’s Race to Dubai, becoming the first man to top the season money-lists on both sides of the Atlantic. Donald landed third place at 16-under par 272.
