Pakistan needs to cooperate more: Holbrooke

Holbrooke said Pakistan is cooperating with Afghan peace efforts but not to the extent sought by Washington.

Express July 23, 2010

LONDON:

US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke on Friday said that Pakistan is cooperating more with US-backed Afghan peace efforts but not to the extent sought by Washington.

Speaking during his visit to Britain, Holbrooke cited several areas of progress including a greater Pakistani military push against militants on its soil. However, he said the Haqqani network remains a 'real problem.'

He said without Pakistan's participation, the Afghan war could go on indefinitely.

The envoy said the emphasis right now is on reintegration efforts which look at persuading the Taliban to lay down their arms and participate in social development projects.

Nazir Habib | 14 years ago | Reply Mr. Holbrook.........your government should stsrt listening to its own echo, of DO MORE. Your country's armed forces are the best equipped when evaluated against comparative armed forces. All your instituitions of learning in USA, UK and Europe say the same thing. All the hype of CNN, Fox, WSJ, NY Times, etc is all bunk and balderdash which should be thrown into the irrelevant portion of the dustbin of history. Your country has through cunning, chicanery and deceit got our country involved. No doubt at all that your time is up and the American invaders should honorably exit Afghanistan with the contents of your right and left hand pockets (ISAF and NATO) and let the region settle the imbroglio created by the realtime axis of evil (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice). With best wishes.
