Encounter Probe: Submit report in 10 days, says LHC

LHC directed DIG (Investigation) to conduct an inquiry into the Nishtar Colony police encounter.

The Lahore High Court directed DIG (Investigation) Ali Amir Malik on Thursday to conduct an inquiry into the Nishtar Colony police encounter and submit a report to the court within 10 days. With this direction, the court disposed of a writ petition seeking reinvestigation of the encounter. The petition was filed by Seema Bibi, mother of Constable Asif Bhatti, who has been charged in the case.

Her counsel, Advocate Aftab Ahmad Bajwa told the court that Lahore CCPO, DIG (Operations) and the Model Town SP were interfering with the investigation.
He said his client’s son was innocent.

“The SHO of the police station is responsible but his name was dropped from the case because he is a close relative of an additional inspector general of police,” he said.
