LAHORE: Staring happens to be the favourite pastime of most Pakistani men. They seem to spare not even those women who wear burqas. As for those who wear jeans, being stared at by men is something that they experience on a daily basis. And this extends also to women who drive, regardless of how one happens to dress.
I leave for my university every morning with sunshades covering all four of my car windows and sunglasses covering most of my face. But not a day goes by without some car full of hooligans following me to my university or singing profane songs at me, all thanks to Bollywood. Some male drivers very graciously take it upon themselves to keep in my lane without letting me overtake and slow down to the point that I sometimes get late for class.
Is letting a woman drive in peace too much to ask for?
