QUETTA: At least three Pakistani fishermen were gunned down, while two others were injured, by Iranian security forces when they wandered into Iranian territorial waters in the Pasaband area, about 40 kilometres off the Jewani coast in Pakistan.

The fishermen, who belonged to Sindh, had entered into Balochistan from Karachi, police officials said.

District Police Officer Gwadar Liaquat Baloch confirmed the incident and said the bodies are yet to be handed over to Pakistani officials.

“The trawler, Al-Mariam, entered into Iran’s territorial waters when Iranian security forces opened fire on them, killing three crew members on the spot, while injuring another two,” he added.

Station Officer of Jewani Imam Baksh said that there were 20 to 25 people onboard Al-Mariam, which was engaged in illegal fishing.

“Three people were killed, while two sustained injuries. The deceased, injured and those who have been caught alive are in the custody of Iranian security forces,” he told The Express Tribune.

Baksh added that there were two trawlers. “One of them escaped when Iranian forces opened fire, while they captured the second one.”

The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Chabahar, Iran. Identities of the fishermen hailing from Sindh could not be determined.

A senior police official in Jewani said Iran had tightened security across the border with Pakistan during Muharram.

“The trawlers often enter Iranian territorial waters, but these days, Iranian officials are strictly dealing with those who enter Iran without valid travelling documents,” he said.

The police have tried, in vain, to establish contacts with Iranian officials for handing over the bodies and those injured.

Will there be large scale protests against Iran by patriotic Pakistanis or is it kosher when a Muslim county is involved?

Why are people creating such a fuss about umma and brotherhood. While I feel sorry for the men who got wrongly shot, this is a matter of maritime security and incidents like these occur. I am pretty sure that had an Iranian or Indian fishermen crossed over into Pakistani waters, the Pakistan Coast Guard would have reacted too in its own interests. The only solution to this is probably better coordination between both sides in the future.

I like how Pakistan has extremely selective integrity. China kills Muslims, they still get love letters. Iran kills Pakistani civilians on sight, they’re still kind victims of the west that would never do the things they’re accused of. NATO kills soldiers in an area that becomes frequently hostile and life threatening for even Pakistan itself, death to America.

What a Ummah , Oh Iranian Muslims you are so cruel to these poor ‘ Ummah ‘ brothers .
How you expect sympathy from Muslims .

    Could have been USA/UK/Israel spies.
Pakistan, who has been “giving away” visas to USA/UK/Israel/etc. spies, terrorists and sabotagers, should learn a lesson in security from its neighbor.

Ummah doesn’t work with Shia Muslims, as far as my knowledge goes. Iran is Shia.

Don’t you Pakistanis remember, how Bahrainians selectively attacked Pakistanis during the uprising?

even though there has been a continuous hostility both india and pakistan have never killed fishermen. Both have arrested them and followed due procedure

It is not the Iran is to blame for this incident. It is our nation which has degraded itself to this level that such incidents are happening. Drones attacks, Muhimand attack, Abbotabad attack, Raymond Davis… such events lead others to think that ‘Do whatever you want to do with these(Pakistani) people, they will NOT react…’. Even the dealing of our own law enforcement agencies is so inhuman that one can have the idea of what we think for our own tax paying citizens.Recommend

Well what do you expect a nation involved in Delhi style attacks and just last week attacks in Afghanistan. Any sane country would be careful of Pakistanis entering their borders.
    Even China is moving away.

It is like socalled friends of India Sri Lankans who kill Indian fishermen in Palk strait. But atleast Iran has an excuse because of Pakistan’s earlier support for Judo Allah during Musharaff rule

No matter it was involved Indian or Pakistani fisherman , is it the punishment to kill these poor fisherman for catching some fish ? Were they armed or they showed any hostile activity ? Mind it , Allah created food for all & you cant kill any one one for collecting some food .

There is an international law that if a fisherman crosses the border he is not even captured but handed over to the parent country.. I take this shameful Iranian act as breach of international law and common norms.. Shame on you Iran.. Just shame on youRecommend

@Iran: I think you need to brush up on your english writing styles. Acorn is writing rhetorically in the third person (and somewhat sarcastically). I don’t know if muslims are killing other muslims at a higher rate than they kill ‘infidels’ but it must be pretty close or more. I live in a country where the total number of murders per province or state is in the single digits. and most of those are related to criminal gang activity.

Personally, I don’t care who is killing who; but I am appalled that they are killing in His name and in His house. Killing is one thing, just leave God out of it.

BTW: The term Infidel is both derogatory and a misnomer; most of us never signed on to your religion; so we can’t be ‘infidel’ to it.

Iran must compensate the families of the both deceased and injured so that the poverty does not drive the male wards to the underworld of crime and females to the living hell on earth.

A cold bolded murder in a cowardly manner of a poor fishermen. Nothing can justify killing of any unarmed personnels regardless of their nationality or religion. An apology and compensation to the families be demanded from Iran.

I think Iranians are paranoid about a covert war being waged against them and shot first and thought lather. Its not like they killed everyone, they took the wounded to a hospital in Iran.
