The TSA said baggage screeners had found the grenades while X-raying the woman's checked luggage on Saturday.
TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said the woman, who has not been named, surrendered the items to authorities without incident and was then allowed to board the flight. Farbstein did not say why the woman was carrying the grenades.
Port Authority Police has law enforcement authority over the airport and said on Monday they were not called in for the incident.

was she going for an FHM photoshoot? i mean she had granades
Since she was allowed to board on plane so this confirms she was not a muslim, especially a muslim from Pakistan!
Hail to American justice!
@Wowemkay: That name is of the spokesperson not the passenger.
@Wowemkay:
It is incredible that you managed to find out the name, & thereby the religion, of the passenger though the report does not mention her name anywhere!! (Incidentally, Lisa Farbstein is name of the spokeswoman of TSA; not of the traveller) It is reasonable to suspect though that the woman may have been a non-Muslim. May be she works for the Belgian small arms & grenade manufacturer Mecar (supplier to NATO) or Fabrique Nationale de Herstal & these duds are the product complaints she was carrying back to factory, with due authorisation from homeland security of US:-)
The name is Jewish which explains why she was allowed to board the flight and at any rate disarmed grenades are just cans. Can only imagine half the US Army and Marines being called out if she had been Muslim, She must have got a great bargain at some junk store and was probably going to use them for some decorative purpose.
and she was allowed to board plane???? wow
Is the woman of pakistani origin ?.
