Possibility of gang rape ruled out

KARACHI: The committee formed to investigate the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre’s (JPMC) nurse rape case submitted its report to Sindh health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed on Thursday.  According to the report, the nurse was not gang raped and Abdul Jabbar Memon, a medico-legal officer at JPMC, is the sole culprit.

The written statement of JPMC’s joint director Dr Seemin Jamali said that Dr Farhat Abbas, a senior MLO at JPMC, and a health department official, were present in her office a few minutes before the incident on July 13.

Dr Jamali said she left her office at 4 pm for her home in the hospital colony. When she reached home, she received a call informing her about a girl lying outside Memon’s flat in the mess. Dr Jamali said that MLO Dr Tayyeb was not on duty at the time of the incident. MLO Dr Pardeep Kumar was also on duty and was busy conducting post-mortems at the hospital’s morgue, she reported.
