HARIPUR:

The owner of a private hospital was kidnapped by unknown abductors in Haripur on Thursday evening, according to police sources.

The police have confirmed the kidnapping after recovering the doctor’s car from Hattar Road along with his driver, who was critically injured.

Qazi Fayyazur Rehman lodged a complaint with the police after his brother-in-law, Dr Talal Ahmed, owner of Yahya Welfare Medical Complex, left the hospital at around 9pm, but did not reach home. When the family tried to contact him, his cell phone was switched off and Rehman informed the police about Ahmed’s mysterious disappearance.

Meanwhile, the police received a tip-off about an abandoned vehicle parked near Model Town Kangra. They found Ahmed’s guard, Arsalan, had been shot in the head, when they reached the spot.

The police said they could not record Arsalan’s statement, as he was shifted to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad in critical condition and a criminal case against unknown suspects has been registered under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

There have been more than half a dozen cases of kidnapping for ransom in Haripur in the past 18 months.
