Cricket: Women, blind team lauded by PCB

LAHORE: Pakistan’s women’s and blind cricket teams were lauded for their recent efforts by the country’s cricket board yesterday.

The women’s team reached the final of the World Cup qualifiers and sealed its place in next year’s World Twenty20 as well as the 2013 World Cup. The blind team, meanwhile, whitewashed India in a one-day series 3-0 after winning the Twenty20 series 2-1.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, member of the governing board, interim chief selector and several former cricketers were present at a ceremony where a cash prize of Rs 100,000 was announced for each member of both squads.

“I am really excited by their achievements and have great hope that the women’s team can win the World Cup as well,” said the PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf. “I also congratulate the blind team on their victory over India.”
