Senate passes unanimous resolution condemning NATO attack

ISLAMABAD: The Upper House of the Parliament on Friday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the NATO attack on Pakistani check posts in Mohmand Agency which killed at least 24 soldiers.

The resolution was moved by the Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri and was backed by all the other Senators.

The resolution read
This House strongly condemns the NATO aggression. It is an attack on sovereignty and integrity of the country and the entire nation is grieved. This barbaric act is totally intolerable. It is not first such attack on Pakistan forces as similar events have been taken place in the past too. Hence, this House does not accept this excuse of NATO that the attack was a result of some kind of misunderstanding.

It further added that the attack was contrary to United Nations (UN) resolutions and international laws, and also demanded that all such attacks in the future be countered in every possible way.

The November 26 strike near the Afghan border has sparked fury in Pakistan and further complicated US-led efforts to ease a crisis in relations with Islamabad and stabilise the region before foreign combat troops leave Afghanistan in 2014.

We call it Northern Afghanistan Taliban Organization, (due to their covert support to the Taliban) here in Afghanistan. But, I think Pakistanis have come up with a better metaphor for NATO ;-)

What good these resolutions or condemnations are? We must change ourselves and come out of denials, bigotry, and undue support to the incompetent military. Our right action should have been people coming to streets protesting strongly and demanding resignations from all top military generals and entering garrisons in thousands demanding court marshals for all those who were negligent. This was clearly our so-called brave and genius military's uncompetitive ness that should not be forgiven. Not going to attend a conference or blocking supply is going to hurt general public not the military that is enjoying a luxurious comparative to civilian life. Give all the facilities and kind of salaries to the civilians, they will become efficient better than this kind of military. We do not have any danger from any neighbor but from our own military and that’s what did Haqqani show and was afraid of. We must slam terrorism and our military must not pamper their beloved Taliban or any terrorist organization and must not indulge or direct in national politics. A complete unconditioned, sincere and patriotic u-turn is necessary to save the nation in one piece.
