Swiss cases: Govt won’t write a letter against president, says Chandio

The federal Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio says the opposition has no reason to make NRO an issue.

ISLAMABAD:
The federal Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio said on Thursday that the government does not plan to write a letter to the Swiss government regarding President Asif Ali Zardari's assets.

“The opposition is making the National Reconciliation Ordinance [NRO] an issue for no reason,” he added while talking to Express News.

Last week, the senior leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party held a brainstorming session at the presidency to chalk out a strategy in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s rejection of the review petition on the NRO.

The apex court rejected the federation’s review petition on the court’s earlier verdict in 2009, declaring the NRO ‘void ab initio’ and directed the government to immediately implement the court’s decisions – including re-opening the Swiss cases against the Bhutto family and President Zardari.
