AJK medical colleges: Classes to begin from January 1
Classes in the newly-established medical colleges in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad will begin from January 1, as planned. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was told this in a briefing on Wednesday.
He said the colleges should have a fixed quota for students from all over Pakistan, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), Gilgit-Baltistan, Indian Kashmir and overseas Kashmiris. The AJK PM said they were committed to promoting education, especially medical education in the state.
He advised the principal to complete everything well before the deadline and to have both the colleges prepared to start classes on the same date. The PM said that the required resources have been already provided to the institutions and promised more funds if needed.
The Prime Minister said that the colleges should be on the same standard as other public and private medical college in Pakistan. He added, “These colleges will cater to the needs of the whole country, and should be converted to medical universities.”
Earlier Principal Dr Muhammad Iqbal said that notifications on the medical colleges were issued in 1984, but it was the present government that finally implemented the decision. Seven labs, an auditorium and lecture halls have been built, in addition to the appointment of 22 senior doctors as professors.
Dr Iqbal said modern learning sources and campus management systems will be introduced in the colleges and that both the colleges are affiliated with Sheikh Zayed Hospital and Abbas Medical Institute.

The last date of application for admission is jan 05, 2012 but surprisingly no seat is alocated for the prov of punjab. The prime minister of AJK refused to offer any seat to the students of Punjab (update 26/12/2011 at 11:30am)

the total no of seats will be 200 (both colleges)Punjab will get about 75-100 seats on the bases of MCAT 2011. FEW SEATS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON SELF FINANCE BASES THE BOTH COLLEGES WILL BE AFFILIATED WITH UHS. ADMISSION ADD WILL BE PUBLISHED IN NEXT WEEK.

guys i have gud news the uni will definately open in jan or latest by feb.....the pmdc have allowed them for 100 students in muzaffarabad but in mirpur they r still struggling to get the seats from 50 to 100 :)
@sana : yup thts true about 150 seats are reserved for AJK citizens and rest of the provinces will get 2-3 seats and some students will be allowed in on self-finance
@maria: as far as i have heard it is but i called the uni yesterday and they said they'll finalize the decision after a few days.......lets see what they say

In both clgs of ak,total seats r 152 on merit bases for ak stdnts n there wil b qouta systm.rajput
100 seats frm mzd and 100 frm mirpur but its not necessary that all the 200 had given the mcat in punjab ,there will hardly b 50 students who have qualified so what about the remaining 150 seats?

salamz, i m ajk refugee 1947 and i have 988 marks in f.sc. and my aggregate was not good enough to get admission either on open merit or reserved seats, thats why i didnt apply for nomination. plz tell me what should i do.

there is no entry test the candidates will be chosen by the nomination board of AJK and the college will start in the month of January but not necessarily on the first
i have the same problems like the ones u have. i think we are hoping for something impossible. it is not going to open....
