ISLAMABAD:

About 400 graduates at the 33rd convocation of Preston University here were urged to play their role in development of the country.

Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, the chief guest, said students are the country’s future and they should prepare themselves for this task. “It is very important that you play a constructive role in educating the next generation as you have a responsibility on your shoulders now,” he said.

He then awarded degrees and medals to about 400 students who graduated from Kohat, Peshawar and Islamabad campuses of Preston University between 2005 and 2008.

The degrees were conferred to students of bachelors, masters and M.Phil in various disciplines including business administration, social and natural sciences. Forty-three students received gold medals.

The minister said that no one can deny that a nation’s success lies in its educated human resources, therefore an adequate and sustained investment in human capital holds the key to economic, social and political development of any country.

Chancellor of the university, Dr Abdul Basit, said since its establishment, about 27 years ago, the university has been able to produce and provide more than 60,000 qualified and trained graduates. Currently there are more than 12,000 students enrolled in the varsity, he added.
