LAHORE:

Lahore based alliance of Pakistani civil society organization Joint Action Committee (JAC) for Citizens’ Rights organised a candlelight vigil on Tuesday to protest against the killing of 26 Pakistani soldiers working at a Pakistani check post in Mohmand Agency in a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) attack on November 26.

JAC members termed the attack an act of aggression and a violation of international human rights standards which neither serves peace nor diplomatic relations. The protesters gathered in front of Lahore Press Club, lit candles, offered fateha for the soldiers killed, offered condolences and expressed solidarity with the families who had lost their loved ones in this tragic incident. They strongly condemned the attack that had resulted in loss of precious lives.

JAC also deplored the violence by militants that has resulted in the deaths of over 30,000 innocent Pakistani civilians and the ongoing attacks on schools and markets. They demanded that the government of Pakistan should not allow any militant groups to operate from its soil.

JAC leaders Nigar Ahmed, Nasreen Zuhra, Farzana Mumtaz, Zafar Malik, Abdullah Malik, Azra Shad and Shamila Tanvir led the protesters.
