Pakistan’s last ambassador

Letter November 29, 2011
Dismissing Haqqani's performance as ambassador, that he may have dabbled in students politics of the Right, is unfair.

LAHORE: In his article of November 28 titled “Restoring civil-military balance”, Shahzad Chaudhry refers to Husain Haqqani, our last ambassador to the US, as an “over-primed example of present day upper-crust liberals” of course notwithstanding “his initiation in the tradition of the political Right”.

Mr Chaudhry is not only entitled to his views, but also to express them publicly, including his now increasingly untenable apology for the role of the military in the affairs of the state. Dismissing his sterling performance as ambassador on the grounds that he may have dabbled in students politics of the Right, is a bit unfair.
