Upgraded technology: Forensic agency to facilitate LEAs

ISLAMABAD: The National Forensic Science Agency (NFSA) has established an Evidence Receiving Unit (ERU) to ensure accuracy and to facilitate law enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in submitting samples for biological tests. The NFSA has also established a dedicated helpline in Islamabad (051-9267685). “Our basic objective is secrecy and accuracy. The samples are dispatched to NFSA laboratory and after conducting tests they are sent back to agencies concerned,” an official said. The Australian government has provided a Genetic Analyser Machine worth $250,000 to NFSA to enhance their forensic capacity and to combat crimes. Specialised training will also be provided to officers of the agency as part of a Forensic Biology and DNA course in Australia.
