LAHORE:
An additional district and sessions judge on Monday summoned prosecution witnesses for November 30 in a case against four policemen for killing a robbery suspect in custody and then trying to pass it off as an encounter. On Monday, the jail authorities produced Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Riasat Bajwa, Sub Inspector Muhammad Riaz and Constables Muhammad Asif and Abdul Qadir before Judge Muhammad Sheraz Kiani. The policemen allegedly shot and killed Shehbaz Butt, who they had taken into custody after he was caught trying to rob a medical store in Yuhanabad. A media outcry prompted an inquiry into the incident which recommended that they be prosecuted. A case was registered against them for murder and abetment.
