Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) sources confirmed the attack, but could not determine the number of casualties as the interrogation was still underway.
The incident took place in a village of Salala, which is an area bordering the Kunar province of Afghanistan.
At least 40 soldiers were stationed at the check post.
An official on the condition of anonymity told The Express Tribune that there was consistent shelling on the Pakistani check post, which resulted in security forces retaliating.
"The actual number of casualties might rise, as it cannot be determined at the moment," the official said.
The official added that nearby areas were also attacked by the helicopters.
“It is a matter of national security and we are still interrogating it,” said a security official. “The matter will be taken up at the highest level.”
"This is an attack on Pakistan's territorial sovereignty, “said Masood Kasur, the governor of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. "Such cross-border attacks cannot be tolerated any more. The government will take up this matter at the highest level and it will be investigated."
The situation remained unclear as the political administration did not give any information about the incident.
The incident comes a day after Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani met Commander of Coalition Forces in Afghanistan General Allen Jones to discuss measures of enhancing border control on both sides.
The attack will likely worsen US-Pakistan relations, already at one of their lowest points in history, following a tumultuous year that saw the bin Laden raid, the jailing of a CIA contractor, and US accusations that Pakistan backed a militant attack on the US Embassy in Kabul.
An increase inUS drone strikes on militants in the last few years has also irritated Islamabad, which says the campaign kills more Pakistani civilians in the border area than activists. Washington disputes that, but declines to discuss the drone campaign in detail.
Earlier, it was reported that Nato jets had attacked the border post.

Nato attack priced too high for United States of America. America is Desperate to Restore Normal Relations with Pakistan. Now America is facing the music of their own deed,

As we know pak spend more than 70 percent bodugate on defence annully,but where is our achivements?
why you are trying to kill our army ?
we are all sleeping we are thinks america for this wecked up if we ?
nato has just do it for revolution in Pakistan like in Libia and Egypt and what they have started in other Arabs countries. First they want to bring such revolution in Pakistan in form Taliban but our Intelligence had easily handled that. Now again they are doing such attacks for the same purpose to snach away Nuclear weapon from Pakistan and rule just like in Afghanistan, Iraq and other Muslim countries. Now the only solution of matters for our Intelligence and officials is that Pakistan has to announce that they will fire Atomic bomb on the country whose forces ever attacked Pakistan without any negotiation becuase it will be considered as an attack on Pakistan.
sad incident , but what a diplomacy by US i am shocked man , i think now its time for US to play double game instead of PAK army and establishment.
Dear Readers, What happen in Salala is very tragic and we are saddened by the death of 25 brave Pakistani soldiers and officials. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families. We are looking at it very seriously, and that is the reason a high ranking official has been appointed to investigate this incident. A full investigation is underway, and we all should reserve comment on the details of what happened until all investigations are completed.
In an official briefing yesterday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, “The President's reaction is all of our reaction, which is that the events that took those lives -- the event, rather, was a tragedy. The loss of Pakistani life was a tragedy. We mourn the brave Pakistani service members who lost their lives. And our sympathies go out to their families and go out to Pakistan” He further said, “We take this matter very seriously. I believe my colleague over at the Pentagon, George Little, announced earlier today that in addition to ISAF looking into this, at the request of General Allen, CENTCOM will be investigating this matter. And we’re obviously very keen on finding out exactly what happened.” He also said, “As for our relationship with Pakistan, it continues to be an important, cooperative relationship that is also very complicated. And we have been -- senior U.S. officials have been in contact with the Pakistani government, with their counterparts in Pakistan, including Secretaries Panetta and Clinton, Chairman Dempsey, General Allen, Ambassador Munter. And those contacts will continue. It is very much in our national security interest to maintain a cooperative relationship with Pakistan, because we have shared interests in the fight against terrorism. And so we will continue to work on that relationship.”

@Rude Dog: Hey ! Wake up ! My 13 yr old has more commonsense than what you just showed with your comment!!! Its not very healthy to live in world of illusions!!
@Indian - The fact of the matter is that Pakistan is a peaceful country that minds its own business and lives peacefully with the rest of the world and its neighbours (India is an exception) On the contrary, it is India's lies and propaganda against Pakistan that India feeds off of. Pakistan never had any terrorist problems in the past. It is a known fact that it is india who manufactures terrorist from Afghanistan and then spits it out into Pakistan, shamelessly blaming Pakistan. All terrorists are India's proxy war creation for the sole purpose of destabalizing Pakistan. India's terror game exposed and well understood by Pakistan. India should stop killing the world!. . . . It has killed the US economy by stealing jobs from the US and it creates terrorist from the back door through Afghanistan into Pakistan. Also it promotes wars through its lies and propaganda! END OF DISCUSSION*********
If we reallly call ourselves a nation then we really need to smack nato foces with a real attack.They dont have the right to take away our freedom cuz we aint a dead nation and we really need to prove it.Up till now 72 soldiers have been killed by these forces and we have done nothing.We know that our government has pathetically responded towards this situation but we should not.Even being a civilian i dont fear fighting with these nato forces face to face.My compatriots i expect the same from u.
@Rude Dog: Just one correction - Well known fact is Pakistan using Afghanistan to attack the world through Taliban and other 'strategic assets' through 'front door'. You know best now with what is happening in Pakistan as to what happens when you try to kill the world..
@VINOD - You may not want any war personally . . . But India does to gain supremacy and an upper hand in the region . . .that simple! And the well known fact that it has historically been using Afghan soil to attack Pakistan from the back door and that it is shrewd enough to fool the world . . . mostly USA. Get it now???? Please know, with these kind of back door tactics are very harmful and couter-productive. India should live like a good neighbour with Pakistan and stop ganging up on it under the umbrella or collection of its misguided countries!!
@Rude-Dog: Dear Dog no one has ever explained to me as to why India would attack Pakistan?NOT ONE REASON. Leave India no one in the world would like to have Pakistan on their platter. The jehadis terror, failed economy, millions of hungry people to feed, no water, no electricity, no stability It will be foolish to even think that India or any one else would attack Pakistan. And why? Please THINK Think and do not keep repeating what Zia down wards has been taught to you.
@stevenson: histroy proves that Afghanis have never been any one's lackkeys. They are fearcely independent and brave even the mighty British could do nothing.They had to come to Pakistan as you poked your nose in Afghanistan as lackeys of America with selfish motive of making Afghanistan as your backyard.Remember all your dreams of making Afghanistan as you strategic depth will be blown with the wind.
Airforce is at the boarder,when the loaded jet takes off from kunar province , they reported,it was 1:30am but no action was taken by higher officers,althought they can stop it they can fly from kamara or peshwar (212 km from boarder) .
such decisions cannot be made at real time i think it is an understanding between army/airforce and political leadership that they will not fight with US or NATO , they try to stop actions from ground but know they have to stop them from air. work is already in progress to empower check posts at boarder
Why is there never this much protest when civilians are killed? Are they a lower form of life? Not that we shouldn't protest now of course.
Undoubtedly Pakistan should not tolerate the incident and, if, NATO and US Army do not take the action we must respond in a very calculated manner. At the same time we must to strengthen withhin the country to face these challenges. The urgent steps need to be taken to imporive governance, transparency, tax collection, power saving and generation, education, timely justice to poor, clean administration, real democracy within the political parties and in the country. Those nations are respected who have stengths, learns lesson from mistakes and open to improve its weaknesses. Stop bame game now and move forward to be respected in the commity of nations. God bless Pakistan.
Get our troops out of the FATA region, seal the border and let the Americans, Afghans and the Wasiristanis all fight it out. They are all nuts and there is nothing there. I've been there, I know.
@Malik Adeel Imtiaz: balls ....generals are doing drama in front of you imtiaz.front line soldiers killed wont make any difference to their pocket
@Not required: What did PAF do during binladen operation. now 25 soldiers killing...its incresingly looking like a cricket match fixing scandal.you common man you are the ultimate looser.
@Paul trivet: keep living in ignorance.realise certain pakistanis are the real enemy of pakistan
Why do we keep on asking for and crying we havnt got enough of the $ aid from U.S.
Obviously there are individual military interest and political interest in the whole game plan. loosers are common man.
it is disheartening event but i would like to make two comments 1. it is calculated move by americans to test pakistani response 2. beggars cannot be choosers I fear pakistan will present its nuclear arsenal on plate
@hedgefunder - Your hostility towards Pakistan is obvious just like the hostility of the NATO member who may have attacked the check post with blood thirsty desires!! There is a big problem as to who else is involved in giving out orders between Afghanistan and NATO. Now, Afghanistan, we know does not have a voice of its own as it is being controlled by India (hostile nation towards Pakistan), and it is a known fact that India has been using Afghanistan as the spring board to attack Pakistan for many decades now, it should be considered a big suspect in using NATO as their spring board to attack Pakistan (whether directly or indirectly) Due to the fact India is part of the NATO/Afghanistan equation - - Pakistan should have never participated in this mess as it has caused GENOCIDE to the nation of Pakistan. 38,000 lives lost in cold blood, many thousands displaced and maimed for no fault of their own and 70 billion in the hole with cities destroyed causing total deprivation to its citizens, that no money can replace what so ever!!!!!!!!! It is time to bring the perpetrators of the Pakistan genocide to justice before the world body urgently, without any further distraction. Pakistani leadership is also held responsible as they should have taken such actions long time ago and prevented further bloodshed. Genocide is Genocide no matter how it is performed and executed!!!! Peace brother. . . .
@A Fahran: Remeber that Pakistanis will not forget the lives of our soldiers. We all know how Afghanis have long been lackeys of their masters in India and how they are trying to use the West to kill Pakistanis. We will not forget the thankless way in which Afghani refugees lived in Pakistan by the millions while we fought to defeat the Soviets. We will not forget how we gave you shelter but instead you abused this hospitality. We will see how Pakistan deals with Afghanistan when you stop using others to attack Pakistani soldiers. I pray that the Pakistani military never forgets all the soldiers that lost their lives senselessly. The double game of Afghanistan will come back to haunt Afghanistan.
hina rabani do a great job
this is a bad event
nato kill our 24 brave soldiers i did not think that this is a mistake .nato is a fool that they do not know this is a pakistan army check post pakistan army should reply this. and we did not corporate with nato any more.
@Zeeshan:
1) You should also know that we have been strong enough to liberate Bangladesh from the clutches of West Pakistan and its genocide of 3 million Bangladeshis and oh! may be you forgot to mention which part of Pakistan is free from terrorism?
2) You know why India still stands in one piece. Its because it respects its multiculturality and linguistics and not to impose a particular ideology the way Pakistan did in East Pakistan now Bangladesh.
3) 'Kashmiri Muslims still carry with them the surnames' - I suggest you read history from any foreign text (other than Pakistani) and find the truth yourself. Despite all that Kashmir has gone through, 96% of its population is still Muslim in stark contrast to what Pakistan did to its minority (including Hindus). Indian army is not genocidal as Pakistani army was in Bangladesh, otherwise things would have been different with 7 lakh army personnel in Kashmir!
4) 'Kashmiri Muslims were and are the native people of Kashmir' - and they will be native people of Kashmir as citizens of India safe from franaticism and theocracy until they leave this abode .
@humaira kanwal:
joint investigation of incident and clear cut policy is urgently required
Since when has Pakistan ever agreed to do anything jointly??? The victims odf Mumbai too are awaiting joint investigation 3 years down the line !!! So what's the urgency in regards to this little incident????
@R S JOHAR: I agree it was deliberate. Read what Nato chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen has written to Pakistan premier Yousuf Raza Gilani.
“I have written to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to make it clear that the deaths of Pakistani personnel are as unacceptable and deplorable as the deaths of Afghan and international personnel,” he said in a statement. “This was a tragic unintended incident.”
Please read in between lines it will become clear.
As the 24 solidiers were killed. Our Govt: Policy is cheap. So the effected relatives of these solidiers will fought against nato for revenge and of course they will termed as "Tererriosts". Are they be the real tererriosts?
joint investigation of incident and clear cut policy is urgently required
NATO attacked in Pakistani territory is accidental or pr-planned there is need to investigate on urgent bases .its the 2nd largest attack by NATO since 2008 .demand for apology , joint investigation and suspension of NATO supply besides high level meetings are good steps but there are number of questions need to be discuss openly with US .at one hand we ally and on the other hand we are being treated like enemies .its obvious that on both sides mistrust prevails in relationship .now its time for Pakistan and US both to declare openly what is policy what are intentions because there is no doubt that if and on one side US is desperate and frustrate of 10 year ware and confused to do what Exit ,use force or reconciliation Pakistan is also running Dual policy .lose of lives by hands of soldiers in both sides will demoralize army and will shattered the trust of civilian who are also sacrificing their homes their love one for the sack of peace in there land and region .calling In-camera session of Parliament ,or core commander conference or resolutions and statements by leadership are positive steps but theses are not enough .we have to understand that in diplomacy there is no friend and no enemy every country goes for get own priorities and benefits and it is not possible for Pakistan or any other one to live all alone .so during setting of strategy to go forward with US or Afghanistan and any other neighbor our civilian and military leadership must formulate the way and road map that how can we get rid of internal extremism which is growing like cancer .meanwhile we should not forget the snakes in our backyard who are silent yet but who knows they will remain silent for ever .we have no concern with US but we are concerned for our soil our region and peace of the world.
@let there be peace: good reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While we all emphatise with the famlies of dead soldiers, should not the Pakistan citizens ask its establishment why it plays a double game in Afganistan (remember Haqanni network attack on US embassy which was supported by Pak army). These actions of Pak army will lead to such reactions. And soldiers die for no fault of theirs. I think the fblame squarely lies with Gen. Kayani and Pasha. They should have harder look at their Afganistan and NATO policy.
I've just got back after condolences with the father of Captain Usman Shaheed; he achieved shahadat in NATO barbaric attack. Severe cries in his home still sounding in my ears. Gone are the Days when I used to think myself a Proud Pakistani.. We are slaves.. I feel ashamed to own such a coward Army which could not respond. I feel ashamed to own such Air force which could not do anything to destroy the base, from where NATO helicopters operated. Where is PAF? where is JF-17? where is F-16?? Why they did not react immediately? Where is the resolution which states that any such act will be responded. Where is the immediate response of ARMY?? We have every reason to hate and abuse all the high command of our forces.
America showing it is love towards pakis for keeping Osama as Guest Of Pakis miltary
@Jat,
We know how powerful you are. We are always amazed about your military capability and how strong you are in handling Maoist (just a mere quarter of your territory under Maoist) so we are trying hard to learn from you. We are also amazed to know that you need half a million soldiers to govern, rule and terrorize Kashmiris who refused to submit to you.
@Tamil Arasan,
If you love your homeland, I suggest you to learn to speak and teach Hindi in all of your schools first. If love for you homeland only means terrorizing Kashmiris who have nothing in common with you (from skin tone to religion to language to culture) to submit, you should ask yourself who are the terrorists here. Let's not talk about the bravery of Tamils: we saw that in Sri Lanka.
@Ravi,
I suggest you to stop reading Indian textbooks and your propaganda. Kashmiri Muslims are the progenies of the native Kashmiris. Kashmiri Muslims still carry with them the surnames Butt, Bhat, Pandit, Sheikh, Dar, Lone etc. Contrary to your lies, Kashmiri Muslims were and are the native people of Kashmir. The 500,000 soldiers of yours who are now occupying Kashmir are the real foreigners and invaders.
Pictures of Maj. Mujahid and Capt. Usman
May their souls rest in peace along with other Army Jawans who were Shaheed that fateful day.
It is just disgraceful how NATO helicopters can attack a nuclear power and kill our soldiers at their own convenience. please for once Pak govt do something except for your stupid vocal rhetorics of condemnation.Stop there supply lines this is the least that you can do. May the martyred soliders rest in peace.
@Meekal Ahmed - One needs to get to the bottom of this as to who was involed in this action among the NATO team. NATO is made up of a few countries and one of them may be directly hostile towards Pakistan and taking undue advantage of NATO may be using NATO as the spring board to attack Pakistan!!
Go out and vote for change in Pakistan, otherwise this abuse and disgraceful treatment of it's people will continue with blood money. Very Sad . . .
@rk_india: Yes, it is but thankfully not US 'AIDS' !
Now Obama and the republicans alike will still call Pakistan to DO MORE instead of coming out with open, public apologies. The president's silence is deafening indeed. The lead story on cnn.com is not the massacre of 24 Pakistani soldiers, but the record shopping spree of the Americans on BLACK FRIDAY. Bravo USA!! This is how "Friends" treat friends.
Wouldn't it not surprise anyone to find out that Israel had it!s hand in the bombings?
I think Pakistan national security decession to cut of nato supply line to afghanistan is good.Pakistan is the majour partner in war against terrorism.With pakistan USA & Nato forces face hard difficulties with in Afghanistan.Such attock will rise the ratio of anti-america feelings in people of Pakistan.America have to stop their double-face policy for Pakistan.
Now I understand the statement of Ch. Shujat Hussain. Our atom bomb is for Shab-e-barat. Enjoy!
Pass another joint resolution and vow that national interests will not compromised.
@Meekal Ahmed:
How true. Americans are always the good guys :Right?
Why would American Invade Veitnam, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan?
Opes. They were not invading , they were liberating them and i am very hopeful that they will be soon kicked out of Afghanistan like Veitnam and will sink in their own debt of 14 Trillions
China and India are already becoming global stake players. Let's realign our policies and stop giving holy status to our very INCOMPETENT Army. They cannot protect their own people, they will never /can protect Pakistan ( Remember 1971, Kargil, GHQ attack, Mehran base attack etc)
The current leadership should be held responsible for putting the nation through this disaster. They have worked against the interest of their own people and they have the gall to call themselves a 'democracy'. . . they need to go go gooooooooooooo! Cowardly and deceptive leadership is not acceptable when the people are the victim of genocide!!
Kayani has failed. He needs to go.
@ashok sai
No terrorists got hit. Innocent security/army personnel lost their lives undefended. The only terrorists are the ones with you in your lovely country who kill innocent Kashmiri women and children.
May God give strength to the families of all the victims of this massacre. Ameen.
Without a doubt, the NATO attack was deliberate. It was a provocation, designed to put Pakis in their places.
But think about it: How can Pakistan tolerate the murder of its own peaceful servicemen operating on their own soil?
What does the US and its pirate cohorts provide that is so good for Pakistan that Pakistan would endure such a humiliation? What price does the US pay to rape and rape again Pakistan. What sort of government allows foreigners to slaughter its own people!
You tell me. I am neither a Muslim nor a Paki,,but I feel the humiliation, too. Nowhere is safe or civil on earth as long as the US can engage in lawlessness with impunity.
@faraz: You are the only brave man in the pakistan who can see right from the wrong.I respect you wisdom brother Faraz to accept the truth. May god bless you abd all the pakistanis many fold.
all we want befitting reply, kicked afghani out of the country as they were along the US troops during ride time
Where is your all weather friend China? Few days before, China was saying that any attack on Pakistan would be considered an attack on himself, am I right?
Come on Pakistanis...where were your protests when thousands of your soldiers were killed by the bearded brigade?
You didn't mind that, did you? It was after all Muslims killing Muslims!!!!
I don't think any of your conspiracy theories has any substance. It was what is called as a friendly fire. There will be apology from the US govt.
@Bipul Rajput: you may be partly correct that too only about post Islamisation period. I have heard people of same region resisted Alexander's Greek army which became demoralized, gave up ambitions of conquering rest of India and ran away back to safe bases. Only few of Greek soldiers returned alive and even Alexander was fatally wounded and died in Persia. but then it was not called Pakistan and those kingdoms were definitely not Islamic republics.
My message to General Kiyani Kayani. Had you also condemned the every day killing of People of FATA by drones and blocked NATO supply for them, today your 28 Soldiers would have never being killed at the hands of your "friends". RIP for those who died and God bless the People of FATA who are killed and for them no eye sheds or heart grieves.
Excellent opportunity for our leaders to wipe off some of the egg that has landed on their face over the last so many months.
The people generally believe that the government is only dancing to the tunes of US. A memo revealed by a US businessman of Pakistan's origin can shake our military and civilian leadership. How can we believe such weak military and civilian leadership can respond to this violation by Nato?
As an Indian citizen "I won't say that credible evidence needed against NATO" . I won't repeat any pak minister's line . I would advise pak gov to snap all deals with NATO and USA . Just tell them that you can't use inch of pakistan , but it is not going to be so easy as pak has already played a successful game of "divide USSR" with Uncle Sam .
Salute to Shaheed, this is very SAD news and definitely GODLY right to be angered. But please note that every thing has some processes and procedures. This incident needs fully investigation. We need to know what went wrong. Something went wrong. God is with us. Please be united with PAK ARMY. Pak Army Live Long......Always remember "shaheed ki jo maut hai wo qaum ki hayat hai".
sir kiyani dont under estimate ur nation v all r with u ask a sacrifice from us v wont give it a second thought but this is not understood that they kill ur troops who starts day with ur orders and ends with ur order , if they deserve this death than u should not be proud of being commander . lets face it once and tell them v r a NATION not slaves.
Wow. What are you waiting for, Pakistan? It's time you fight back...
NATO kills 28 pakistani solders ( pakistan is after all Major non-NATO ally ..whatever that means) .. What is Your Kayani doing? Where are the JF-17 Blunders .. Pakistanis should know ...JF-17 blunders are flying coffins ... better fly F-16s and show some fight .. Pakistani soliders (40!) cannot defend a border post ...Is pakistani army just police force?
What will our PAF will do? all F-16 and most other jets are American made and aid. We can like their Puppets, we cannot do anything if we try to do america will jam our jets.
Truly a sad incident and depressive that we couldnt give them a befitting response;why our choppers were not there to save the souls of our brave soldiers;indeed a great loss;
People in the area comprising Pakistan HAVE NEVER stood up to invaders. History is a witness. Here's how:
Providence had tasked you all with the job of protecting the various native civilizations in Bharat. What what do you do - no resisting the Islamist invaders, instead you join them; over centuries, you grow the distance and in modern times, in hate against your mother civilization join the Americans to get arms to fight your mother civilization; you also ally with your mother civilization's "enemy" with the dream of destroying Bharat.
Anyway, may Brahma receive the souls of the departed soldiers.
@Twinkle twinkle: That is why I am demanding a credible proof firstly attack was by NATO and secondly RAW, CIA and MOSSAD were involved.
Just like Mumbai attacks, I using Pakistani logic that Pakistan should provide a credible proof. Aap Nachaye Tou Kala, Hum Nachaye Tou Mujra..Wah Twinkle Twinkle..
To those asking for a military escalation: It's too late. While the check post was under attack the military should have engaged the attackers. That would have been an act of self-defense, now it will be a blatant act of aggression. Our borders are obviously not protected very well. The air force probably has no night fighting capability, even if it had any operational assets in the vicinity. Best bet is too complain bitterly; cut off the supplies for a few days; and try and get as much positive spin out of this as possible. Alas this will not bring the dead back.
@Ali "Why do military exercises with china when the armed forces cannot defend the sovereignty of the country." When was the last time they defended the country? If we are at the verge of being a failed State our Armed Forces are directly responsible for it. The Chinese our all weather friends know our Achilles Heel and would exploit it to the hilt. I have been saying this all along our salvation lies only in sorting out our invented problems with India, sooner we do it the better it is for us and for India too they also need to move from their position. I know my words would irk many readers to them I would say that my family's long and distinguished dossier of Dedicated Patriotism, Sacrifice and Service in line of duty whether in the Armed Services or in the Civil gives me right to call spade a spade. The time is ripe for us to look in the right direction and take the step to undo the damage wrecked upon us by sixty four years of experimentation and in trying to pretend that we are Middle Easterns not Indians with whom we not only share the gene-pool but also the social bond, our legacy and identity, we need to claim all this because we are an equal and rightful claimants to our common heritage.
ham on us tht our aiforce hve 500 fighter jets ad 11lac ground troops but dot hve heart like iran our 30 troops shaheed but at tht time where was our airforce why they nt shoot down nato halicopters vry sorry to say agan same type of protest lunched why pakistan nt taking his revange to attack nato check post on pak afghan border to make hs head proud but they wll nt do i knw
@Najam Sethi: So you'll be canceling your US green card?
What are we trying to do ? it appears as if every time we announce firm response, the so called friends call our bluff. This is the most sad day for all the pakistanis today, actions not words are the real need of the time. stop trusting them and better go for quid pro quo responses. i don't understand why Iran an erstwhile enemy of USA, which shares borders with Afhanistan as well as iraq, has never faced such provocations even once. Iran does not have Nuclear capability but even then the world fears taking any unilateral action against them. Whats wrong with us, is it , that our strength has been converted in to our weakness ?. We need to learn lessons from across our neighborhood and take a corrective course of action.
alresdy forwarded
how many here feel this is allah's wrath on pakistan which had a hand in the slaughtering of innocents in mumbai 3 years ago????
This attack was meant to put pressure on Pakistan Army and to engage the army in this matter so that they remain less engaged in MEMO GATE and forget about the civilian govt.Its so easy for them to let the people forget the past(who is talking about Obl/Davis...etc issue).
@Raj - maybe there are Indian personnell in the mix with Nato doing command and control . . . . . No one can be so blood thirsty for Pakistan except Indian command and control pursuing some naive nations to join them in their hatred against Pakistan!!
@A Fahran: NATO should attack your house first and call it collateral damage. Then we'll see how "wounded" and "angry" you get.
@Kashmiri: Kashmir is an integral part of India and it will remain forever....based on religion if you try to divide India then people from other parts of India are ready to defend it - I am form the southern most part of India called Kanyakumari and we never faced any war or any terror attack in our area - but if you go and ask any youths of my village their first choice will be to work for Indian army, we love our mother land and ready to sacrifice to defend it's unity...
Pakistan should declare military and economic sanctions on USA. Cut off all military and ecnomic assiatance to USA and impose a naval blocade on USA. Remember , Pakistan militarty has a history of great victories in last 60 years , unmatched in history.
NATO, ISAF, US: Get out of this region and leave us alone. We were better without you.
The latest attack has once again unveiled the paradigm shift in the policy of the American forces that is to launch both covert and overt offensive against Pakistan.The upsurge in drone attacks augmented by unilateral direct strikes by American forces on our soil have not only questioned our territorial integrity but also our self respect and soverienity.One feels great pain to see the colossal loss of human life which this nation has faced in the past decade may that be due to deadly terrorist strikes across the country or natural disasters which now and then finds a reason to hit our country.No one else is to blame but us ,because the its us who have guaged our national stature to such a historic low that we cannot even voice and record our protests at the international forum effectively what to talk of retaliating and stop feeding the phantom which has come out of the bottle ! This is high time that we differentiate between our friends and adversaries because this deamon if not tackled now will haunt our generations to come forever.The Govt should take stern action by not only blocking the main supply route of Nato forces indefinitly but also re-defining rules of engagement (ROE) so that the blood of innocent civilians and soldiers may not all go but in vain.
Pakistan should provide a credible proof that attack was by NATO forces.
My condolence to the families of the twenty four soldiers killed in this brazen attack which violates international norms and rules to shreds. The lives of hundred of family members have been ruined & changed forever. The civil society must provide support to the bereaved families. NATO is a front for the US. Pakistan has to throw the US dollars back in their face and act as a soveriegn country, even if that comes at a huge cost. Struggling with dignity is better than living as puppets.
God bless the souls of the brave military personnel. The government needs to use peaceful means to seal the border and stop all movement of goods to Afghanistan now to show that Pakistan will not let itself be abused like this. Think about all the suffering we have experienced for defeating the Soviets for the West and ending the Cold War. This is how we are thanked! Shame.
First an attack in Baluchistan, now in Mohmand Agency.... a definite provocation!
An attack on Pakistan is an attack on China. Wait for China's action now.
Do we have our ambassador in Washington at the moment?
This was a barbaric act committed on 180 million Pakistanis by barbarians today. The government MUST MAKE SURE that these NATO cowards pay a high price for their cowardice.
Nothing less will be acceptable now, not this time.
@Usman: We actually ARE in business. Only this time ‘they’ have made us known that ‘they’ mean business.
I think the aftermath of this incident would be same like the previous ones, we need a lion to lead this nation, a change that we need to bring forcefully. We as a nation, have been talking about alot of changes in these past few years, but where are these changes? First we need to change ourselves so that we can bring a change elsewhere.This is a very sad and depressing incident, just pray for these sons of the land and their families.
had this been afghanistan and the attack was on taliban they would have given a 'befitting' reply sooner or later. either a chinook shot down or an army bus blown apart. our army and our government can only 'talk' but they are so embroiled in strategical plotting with the US that they are afraid to take 'direct' action. im surprised at the army. their soldiers are killed not civilians in KPK that can be 'ignored'. come on lads. take a leaf out of the taliban, and show them yo have a backbone
It is once again a most sad day for the pakistanis all over the world. We are sorry for those mothers , wives , daughters and sons for this irreparable loss.I am not aware of the possibilities of a firm and effective matching response in coming,however, it is my earnest desire to reach out and take up arms myself and fight these heinous criminals. How can you really take such cowards as your allies who are repetitively compromising sovereignty of your country. Let me remind our so called friends, you are in a wrong place at a wrong time, you will have to pay back in the same coins. Blood of pakistani soldiers is not cheap,time would definitely prove this.
A Year ago 2 soldiers got martyred by NATO , reaction was closing of a key border crossing on a NATO supply route to Afghanistan for 10 days until the U.S. apologize! And today the price estimated for those 26 soldiers martyred would be closure of 2 borders and more dollars ? or am i missing something ?
Shame on u Natto
Nothing will happen. It will be business as usual in few days. Lets not boil our blood too much...
Condolences and sympathies for the families pf soldiers/officers.
For the sake of the soldiers who lost their lives I hope the government does something about this. This is just terrible.
**I used to call myself a proud Pakistani till now but now I am ashamed to call myself a Pakistani.I am just another slave of a slave country.
Soldiers are coming from other countries and killing our army men in our territory and we are merely saying that it will will be investigated. Isn't it amount to a total action of war?
I personally knew the officer who embraced martyrdom in this attack Capt Usman Shaheed and met him on Eid ul Azha when he came to Sahiwal a couple of weeks back. I just cant take his image out of my mind when he showed me his two months old daughter. Will this following condolence do any good to her daughter who never saw his father once she grows up?:
The US commander in Afghanistan on Saturday promised a full investigation after Pakistan said a NATO air strike killed at least 23 soldiers, sending his condolences over any troops who may have died. “This incident has my highest personal attention and my commitment to thoroughly investigate it to determine the facts,” said General John Allen, commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (Isaf).**
Guys, don't worry, our lines are on break these days and interrogating the 'MOST IMPORTANT memogate issue. Once that is done, they will take up the issue of national defense seriously. Their supremacy and defense of business and political interest is more important than the rest of the issues !!!!!
This is not acceptable at all but i wonder why all the concerned quarters are taking this a very serious and a high priority matter. In the past, on most of the occasions, a response like this was missing. :(
Any idea what led to the firing? Unlikely that the 'copters fired just out of fancy!
@Cautious: That is SICK... Instead of Offering FATEHA for the Departed Soul, you are adding SALT to the WOUNDS of Pakistanis.... SO much for Liberalism a.k.a Western "Ghulami"... May Allah bless the Shuhadas' families and and give our leaders (both Civil & Military) the vision and COURAGE to say "NO MORE" to this "War of Terror" that has ruined Pakistan. Both the RELIGIOUS and LIBERAL Extremists will be happy today on the massacre of these soldiers.... After all the strings of both types of Extremists are being pulled from the same "LANGLEY" Headquarters.
@Usman: Motherland ? There is no concept of motherland in Islam. If there was a concept of motherland then Pakistan wouldn't have been carved out at the first place.
We must take revenge.
@ali: Beggars too will not retaliate.
This attack comes a day after a NATO airstrike killed 6 children in Afghanistan. Great going NATO, I can see why you're totally winning against the Taliban.
The alternate supply line through chaman (Balochistan) is still open. I wonder why??
@ali: Crap talk as usual.
This act of provocation should be dealt with by stopping all communication with US and instead work on firming our alliances with China.
Pakistan must declare "No Fly Zone" for NATO or US Drones, whats so ever in entire Pakistani airspace.
Pakistan Allies using Pakistans roads and Pakistans Hospitals (in Karachi for wounded in the Afghan theatre) Pakistan is killing its own tribal people to please these people and now our own army personel gets killed. But ok they were right to shoot at these Pakistani soldiers because they didn't use their radioes to contact the helicopters. This is US airspace isn't it we should ask the US for permission to live in our own country and to defend our own country is terrorism....
@ali: very good idea. this will at least bring peace and true Islam in Pakistan. I agree.
@ovais ahmed: Hello Indian Kashmiri I am touched by your sentiments. You are are a true Pakistani at heart and must support Pakistan to take appropriate action against the NATO forces. How dare they do.
Dear All I Really Respect all ur thoughts and Emotions more or less every one is saying same thing but dude face the reality " Beggars are not choosers" we are sold and their slaves so except shouting we cannot do any thing .
Pakistan should cut all strategic support at this moment.
if vice versa would have happened then we would already have gotten the reply.
Did our soldiers die in Vain? They died protecting their country. It is 26 families who lost their loved ones. It is time to listen to sanity and follow what Imran Khan has been saying all along. This is not our war. It has not done any good to our country. Our people die every day to make America safe, and then we still are the target of abuse for the whole world.
@ali:
Wrong.
The Indian helicopter was not "intercepted". It landed in our territory, probably low on fuel.
@Kashmiri: Just try ... we are not Pakistan ... or have you forgotten ?
Its a bizarre incident. NATO pilots would have known for sure that it was a Pakistani check post but continued the attacks till early morning. One report says that they were following the two militants till they entered the checkpost. In that case, continuation of aerial bombing appears to be a delibrate to convey a strong message to Pak military not to cooperate with the terrorists which the Americans have been accusing Pakistan lately. Being an Indian I would support Pakistan that killing of 24 soldiers was inhuman and unjustified and a mere apology by NATO woundn't suffice. RIP to the dead.
@ashok sai: they didn't attack indian army:)
26/11 in pak history
Deploy nukes on western border they should realize what cost they can pay for such adventures!!!
its covered in US AID, right?
It is a total shame for us, NATO is constantly killing our soldiers in cross-border fire, and we always stop their supply for just couple of days to show our anger. We need to teach them a lesson this time either on democratic grounds or on war grounds.
@Asif
Well our anti-aircraft weapons can’t challenge advanced US planes like B-2, F-22. Anti-missile sites can be easily eliminated by stealth bomber paving way for ordinary helicopters etc.
Iran sits on the second largest oil and gas reserves of the world. An attack on Iran will shoot up the oil prices and deepen the current recession. Iran has huge influence in Iraq and Afghanistan, both countries where US is involved. An attack on Iran would ruin US strategy in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Actually the pressure over North Waziristan is over. Now US want Pakistan to bring Taliban on the negotiation table.
US is Pakistan’s largest trade partner, and IMF/World bank loans can’t be acquired without US approval. Study how the capitalist economy works.
This again shows you naiveté. Do you think TTP based in FATA is being run by US consulates in Lahore, Karachi etc. US trainers were based in the military bases and most of them have returned. The decline in terrorist attacks is due to military operations in South Waziristan which was the headquarters of TTP. If US want to help TTP, it can do it through Durand line. Come out of the state of denial. The dozens of militant groups nurtured during the 80s and 90s are behind all the terrorism.
It is really unfortunate. Its not only end of 24 lives but it is also end of life for hundreds of people dependent on them(their families). Simple statement by Nato that it was a mistake is not acceptable.
Aren't we fighting war on terror for them ?
Nothing would change. There should have been a strong action taken on this by now.
US and Pak have conflicting foreign policy in AF-Pak. So sooner or later military confrontation is certain. Pakistan has no choice but to resort to diplomacy to handle this. Those who are shouting for " befitting '' reply must realise Pakistan cannot fight NATO militarily. You can choke the supplies but eventually you have to open it up to avoid international isolation and receive foreign aid, trade concessions and loans. Moreover a significant part of Pak military hardware is from NATO countries. They will eventually choke the supply of spares. So Pak can fight only for a limited time period beyond which their weapon systems will get grounded for want of spares.
Those who are comparing with Iran must realise that Iran's strength in a confrontration against USA lies in its huge oil supplies and also that it can choke the Strait of Hormuz from where 30-40% of the world's crude exports passes. So Iran will threaten the world economy which can put significant pressure on the US. Pakistan can do no such thing.
We should give instaneous reply. Our Gun ship Helicopters/ Airforce should attack NATO bases in Afganistan. Lives of 24 soldiers have been lost. Our Armed forces should act bravely and respond so that they can never think of Attacking our homeland again.
Why did we develop JF-17 thunder ? for Dubai Air Show ?
Keep sleeping....... hahahahhahah
I fail to understand why Pakisatni defence forces did not respond to the aggression.
Where is the joint resolution that in future any such attempt would be responded with befitting counter action. Pakistani nation wake up else it would be too late to redeem what ever is left
@ali:
Good question. Last time (May 2nd) they promised it won’t happen again.
Had this been done by an Indian army contingent would the Pakistani army and public be quiet?
And nato monsters were flying using oil/petrol supplied by Pakistan. Shoot down these monsters as found even near to Pakistani border.
Please, no measured response this time. This is an attack in the Motherland. The world is waiting for our response. Let's show them we mean business
@cautious
You make me sick.
A senior Pakistani military officer said efforts were under way to bring the bodies to the headquarters of Mohmand tribal region from their post located on hilltops near the Afghan border. “The latest attack by Nato forces on our post would have serious repercussions as they without any reason attacked on our post and killed soldiers asleep,” he said, requesting anonymity because he was not authorised to talk to the media.
http://www.dawn.com/2011/11/26/eight-pakistani-soldiers-reportedly-killed-in-nato-attack.html
Pakistani government will block Nato supply line as usual like in the past.
http://tribune.com.pk/story/56665/nato-violates-pak-airspace-second-time-in-24-hours/
Then everything will be fine after a week or two
http://tribune.com.pk/story/60466/pakistan-reopens-main-land-route-for-nato-supplies/
Let's bomb Afghanistan/NATO bases
@ashok sai: The actual high value terrorists are in Indian army camps in Indian occupied Kashmir. We request NATO / Pakistani forces to carry out same attacks on Indian occupied Kashmir and take out these actual high value terrorists. Free Kashmir forever!
Democracy is the best revenge. but from whom????
It is now official.
War on Pakistan has been declared officially
dont get provoked Pakistan, that is what America wants you to do.......you have Chinas support complain to them.......china will take care of america.
Afghanistan needs its freedom NOW.
Must be made more public.
No more servitude to the US.
Afghanistan needs it independence NOW at all costs.
Why PAF not come in action when NATO forces bombing our soldiers?
Why such incident happening time and again on borders. Who will be held responsible to this incident?
What is the permanant solution to prevent such kind of agresssion.
According to unconfirmed sources the total number of martyrs are 22 ( incl 2 offrs ) and 35 are injured in this attack. Nato airforce started poundering the area at mid night and destroyed 2 posts of Pakistan army with gun ship helicopters and jets and it continued uptill morning, while own air force didn't respond at all. This is a shame on the part of Pakistan.We as a nation need to wake up and take the things more seriously.
I wonder why NATO chose to do this. But I sure can guess. Were the militants being provided with covering fire that NATO reacted to?
this happened in Afghanistan a day ago.
US-led copter shot down, 33 killed
http://presstv.com/detail/211914.html
When Indian helicopter come across they are intercepted immediately even though Indians are not even shooting yet when NATO and US helicopters fire and kill our air force is no where to be found.
See US and the West supports their trained insurgents to enter Pakistan.
Make peace with the Taliban and get out of this war which was never ours. Time to give a befitting reply.
So, it started.
"Befitting" a word much abused in this context and in this country.
I agree @Ali
It has been a war. They have been attacking with drones.
Whats the difference?
Kayani , whats the deal?
Hope some high valued terrorists got hit.
Its not about bravery or cowardice. We cannot challenge US army in a conventional battle; insurgency is a different kind of war altogether
Why do military exercises with china when the armed forces cannot defend the sovereignty of the country.
No apologies this time pakistan shuld step out from this nato war in afganistan naw stop alll military and civilian convoys or afgan trade trety.
Lot of bark but no bite! Talk is cheap, keep talking. If you do not take out the trash somebody else would. An apology from NATO and we would move on.
it had happened before but still no reply. Is there a free pass?
US and its allies openly targeting Pakistan...so where is our befitting reply.
Oops!
Dawn reports that the attack was from NATO helicopters not jets - given the history of these types of confrontations it's likely the Pakistani soldiers were shooting at the American's over perceived sovereignty issue - it's wiser and safer to radio the American's rather than shoot at them.
Time to give befitting reply..where is the air force..
where is the pak airforce....sleeping...
The American enemy is trying to provoke us. This is a calculated response to the joint Pak-China millitary excerises in jhelum.
